Ballroom Bowl II -
February 23
It began with 10 couples who all had one dream in
mind: Outdo the others and win a title. Unfortunately,
7 couples were exiled which includes the latest
victim, Lisa & Louis. Now, there are only 3. One, a
former pro football player, another, a professional
wrestler, and the other, a boy band singer. Each one
has some very special moves to share and throughout
these 7 weeks, they pulled off some tough routines,
and the fans voted them to stay here. Now, they're
fighting for the coveted title spot and and there's no
turning back. Tonight, they'll burst out 2 routines
including a freestyle dance, and the judges will rate
them from 1-10 with 10 being the highest and 30 being
the maximum. When it's done, the viewers will pick the
winner and then on Sunday, the couple with the highest
votes wins. After 7 weeks, it all comes down to this.
Let's start the show, everyone!
Before all the dancing starts, we get each couple's
video journey starting with Drew & Cheryl. Week 1, the
cha-cha, and they were off to a good start. By week 2,
the quickstep was a real ballroom test, and it was
passed. By week 3, the Jive came and it was Drew's
favorite dance. By week 4, the samba came along and he
loosed up his hips. That passed and by week 6, the
Tango was the perfect ride. The Semi-finals came and
the Fot Trot was a classy dance according to Cheryl.
Drew said not to wear a black tux, but the rhumba
caused a little concern. However, it was Drew &
Cheryl's finest and they were tied for the lead.
Adding up all the scores the past 7 weeks, they get an
avergae of 27.
Now we go to Len for some routines by the pros that
outlasted the stars. First, he chose a routine where
all pros did a style of dance by 2 members. The whole
reel is shown and another shows 4 men and 4 women
dancing the paso doble individually. Then, we move on
to another segment with Jerry & Anna's journey. Week 1
started with the cha-cha and Anna wanted to put
football moves in his dance. It worked. Week 2 came
and the Quickstep played to his strength. Week 3
sought the Jive and it took the wrong turn because
Jerry had problems with the beat. A dancing map came
in the hands that learned a lesson in week 4, and the
samba won the judges over. By week 6, the paso doble
had a score to settle, and the fans were behind him,
but the judges didn't get any effort. So he tried it
again. The semi-finals came and the Tango took a cue
from George Hamilton, but the judges backfired him. So
the strategy took another turn by doing the rhumba,
however, the fans loved it, but the judges weren't.
Despite that, they get an average of 21 3/4 pts. all 7
weeks.
Now for some more great highlights. Cheryl & Louis
doing the "copacabana" and Cheryl again, this time
with Tony doing "I've Had The Time of My Life." Now,
doing a jive....our locker room mistress Samantha
Harris and Jonathan Roberts doing "Delirious" by
Prince. Both did some kicks, both swerved, and
Samantha did a jump back, and both did some knee
shakes, while Samantha did a jump & spin move. Wow, in
2 weeks, i've never seen both hosts dance like that.
The last journey goes to Stacy & Tony. Week 1, and the
waltz showed Stacy the transformation from wrestler to
ballerina, and by week 2, it was the rhumba that broke
records, one of which is the highest ever 2nd round
score. Week 3 came, and the tango was a real test,
Stacy barely passed through the week, and the next
week came with the fox trot and she was well-relived.
Another week gone by and the samba came where Stacy
unleased a lating goddess that posted a pefect score.
Yet another perfect score came next week, and the week
after that, came the semi-finals where the quickstep
was the most difficult. Stacy said the dance was like
a playground, but the judges got hit like a dodgeball,
so she got out of dodge with the cha-cha and and she
put tricks together. That tied for the lead. With all
7 weeks, they average a score of 37 3/8 which is 27/1
compared to Drew. See, math can be easy.
It's time for the best routine round. With all that
aside, let's go. In practice, it was a party in San
Francisco. But the party's over this week, and the
real ballroom party begins as they do their best Fox
Trot of the season. It had very nice moves like it was
and Anna did a leg spin and a squirm-through to end
the song. Now will the fans pick him to win no matter
what happens? Let's go to the judges: Carrie Ann said
they are off to a great start, Len said they were so
elegant and Bruno said it was like a tower of
strength. Will their tower get knocked down in last?
On to the scoreboard:
CARRIE ANN: 9
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 8
Total: 26
and we're off to a great start.
Up 2nd, Stacy & Tony. Will they take risks this week?
In practice, Stacy did some work on the trapeze. Will
they flip for a championship? They'll go for their
best perfect Jive of the season. The best moments were
Stacy taking her jacket off, both doing some kicks,
and it worked like it. Other moments include a split
by Stacy and she went to the judges table to end it.
Now, she's getting off and facing the judges: Carrie
Ann said it was so animated, Len said it set a high
standard, and Bruno said she's the ultimate pin-up
girl (or is it peanut? I'll never know). Now, paint
the score by numbers:
CARRIE ANN: 10
LEN: 10
BRUNO: 10
Total: 30
Another 30 just like it was.
Last up, Drew & Cheryl. They'll do their best Paso
Doble to "Thriller." This was the cape move that got
the first judges' encore in history. Cheryl did a
floor spin, and Drew did a both-knee kneel down. Both
did a werewolf gesture, and Drew stared down the
camera to end the song. Now we go to the judges:
Carrie Ann said ti dominated the dance floor, Len said
they're enjoying ti so much, and Bruno said it was
strong, powerful, and commanding. Will a tie put them
in command of 1st place? Only the numbers will know:
CARRIE ANN: 10
LEN: 10
BRUNO: 10
Total: 30
Yet another perfecto!
So after a round of play, Stacy & Drew tie it with 30,
while Jerry & Anna have 26. For this next round, it's
what all types of joysticks can do. The rule is: Oh,
forget it. Make one up. It's the freestyle round.
Dance, Dance!
Going 1st, Jerry & Anna doing "Celebration" by Kool &
The Gang. Both did a point gesture, and Anna did a
pick & carry and a flip move. She also did leg spins
and both did a vehicle move. (I don't know if it's a
tricycle or not.) Anna did a floor spin, and even a
pick and squirm-through move getting near the end of
the song. Now we point over to the judges: Carrie Ann
said it did disco and had a great time, Len said it
was absolutely great and Bruno said it was so funny &
entertaining. Will this be pure entertainment. On to
the scores:
CARRIE ANN: 9
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 9
Round 2 Total: 27 Overall Total: 53
and they're in 1st place.
And 2nd is Stacy & Tony doing "Stayin' Alive" by the
Bee Gees. Stacy sat there at the start to watch Tony
become Tony Manero. Both did some thumb moves when
Stacy got up, and both did some arm rolling. Both did
a 180-degree stop gesture, and Stacy did some twirls
and a air-move. Stacy also did a climb & leg-lift air
move to end the song. Will a freestyle throw a air
ball at the judges? Carrie Ann said it was a little
dissapointed, Len said it started like a line dance
but didn't expect more and Bruno said the bomb didn't
quite explode. Will it go off? Scoreboard time:
CARRIE ANN: 8
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 9
Round 2 total: 26 Overall total: 56
And they take the lead!
And finally, Stacy & Tony doing "Save a Horse, Ride a
cowboy" by Big & Rich. Drew walked in the band area
while Cheryl did moves at the start, and then a
jump-over wowed the crowd. Cheryl did a flip-over
move, and both did a roping gesture. Cheryl did a dip
and lower leg kicks, and got a carry move and a dip
move. Both did a can opener move and both did some
footwork. Cheryl did a flip move and both did a domino
move evolving into a horse gesture for both. By the
end, both did a smoking gun gesture. Will they fire
off Stacy & Tony's lead? Carrie Ann said it was
exciting & fearless, Len said it was anything
freestyle should be and Bruno said Drew's ready for
the lead in Brokeback Mountain: The musical.....okay,
now the scores...
CARRIE ANN: 10
LEN: 10
BRUNO: 10
Round 2 total: 30 Overall Total: 60
A prefecto gives them the lead!
So after a big night of dancing, Drew & Cheryl have
60, Stacy & Tony have 56 and Jerry & Anna have 53. But
the slate will be wiped clean on Sunday, because
another routine will be tested for 1/2 the judges
scoring. Will all that change? Also, Mary J. Blige
will perform and the rejected will reunite one last
time. We're on a 70-hour break. See you Sunday when we
dance one last time with the stars.
