One Big Tango Fur Ball - January 19

It's an 8-on-8 affair in the ballroom tonight (that of course, being 8 stars and 8 dance pros) as "Dancing With The Stars" witnesses couples who'll master the jive and the tango. All couples must perform a routine and when that's over, the judges will rate them from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest and 30 being the maximum. Whoever gets the lowest public votes will say goodbye to the ballroom for good. Last week, Tatum didn't slip past P. & Ashly as she got eliminated. Who else will slip & fall into a trap this week? Let's Go!

And going first is Jerry & Anna. Last Week, he drove into 4th. Can he speed up into 1st? Since they got the pole position, they'll jive to The Contours' "Do You Love Me?" Jerry started when he rushed towards Anna, but she pushed her back, then he came back towards her and did a little dance. When the intro was over, both did some swimming gestures, but later, Anna made her own slide through. Both did some arm circles, but by the end, they both did a shimmy & position move. We now go to the jduges for their first reaction: Carrie Ann said the musicality was off in the intro and during the number, Len said it was geriatric and Bruno said it was Jerry in the twilight zone. Right now, we are in a scoring zone and the numbers read as follows:

CARRIE ANN: 7
LEN: 6
BRUNO: 6
Total: 19
Not a terrible way to start the show.

#2 has Giselle & Johnathan. Last week, they took down the rhumba. This time, they'll tango to "Hernando's Hideaway." At the start, Giselle did a foot circle, then later, she did her own leg spin. Both did a spin, but Giselle did a leg lift from there. By the end, she ran to Jonathan and did a hang. Now we go to the judges: Carrie Ann said it was a good performance, but not special, Len said it was proper ballroom tango, and Bruno said it was turning into Robocop. Looks like our scoring robot is spewing out numbers and here they are:

CARRIE ANN: 7
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 7
Total: 22
And the lead is now taken.

3rd takes Drew & Cheryl. Last week, they posted a high score that once secured a lead. Can they secure & let the others hold up? They'll jive to Queen's "Crazy Little Thing called love." Cheryl was sitting at the start and got up later on. Both didia step & kick move, and then they both did toe taps. Later, Cheryl did a slide through and did her own twist shake. She also did a hand & slide through, while Drew lied down on his stomach to end it. Now we head on over to the judges: Carrie Ann said it blended technique & performance, Len said it set the standards for all male stars, and Bruno said the rocket man keeps flying high. Will he dream for 1st like Olajawon or get blocked in last like Ming? We won't know until the numbers tell the story:

CARRIE ANN: 9
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 9
Total: 27
And the lead is snapped from Giselle & Jonathan.

Doing 4th, George & Edyta. Last week, they quickstepped to a safe score. This week, they'll tango to "La Cumparsita." George started off with a smoking gesture, then Edyta did a leg dip. She also did a twist & leg dip, and then a leg dip, followed by a squat & a leg hold. George broke it down with some fancy dancing, but Edyta did her own dip & split at the end of the song. Was this passing fancy for both of them? Carrie Ann said it was charming & entertaining, Len said George is the only male attempting ballroom, and Bruno said George is the master of trickster. Now let's treat them to the scoreboard:

CARRIE: 7
LEN: 7
BRUNO: 8
Total: 22
And they tie for 2nd place.

Halfway home and we continue with Lisa & Louis. Last week, Lisa's shaking put her on overdrive. Can she slow this thing down? They'll Jive to Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock." Both went from the band area to the floor to start off, then both did a leg point move. They also did leg twists, but by the end, she did a dip & split and flashed the "victory!" sign. Will she flash it all the way to a title? Carrie Ann said they danced so well, Len said it was the best performance of the series, and Len said they're in the zone. The scoreboard is printing out numbers right now:

CARRIE ANN: 8
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 8
Total: 25
And they secure 2nd place.

Stacy & Tony are up. Last week, they posted a high score that overtook Drew & Cheryl. This week, they'll tango to "Cell Block Tango" from the "Chicago" soundtrack. Stacy got a leg spin at the start, and both did some leg twists. Stacy did a kick, and both did some head snaps. Stacy did a kick again, then pushed Tony and fell down to the floor, stepping on him. Now we step on over to the judges: Carrie Ann said the lines were gorgeous, but the pace was the face, Len said the tango was excellent, the rest was cold fish, and Bruno said it had supermodel elegance. Can they get a higher score or end up cold in last?

CARRIE ANN: 9
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 9
Total: 27
And we have a tie for first.

Next, P. & Ashly. It was a little better than last week thanks to the quickstep and knocked Tatum & Nick out of the contest. Can they improve out of last place? This week, they'll jive to "Saturday Night's alright for fighting" by Elton John. They went to the band area at the start and went to the stage later on. Ashly made up her own spins & a kick, but P. Miller got down solo. Both did some kicks, and again later on. Both did some bounce twists, and Ashly did a slide through to end the song. How well did they do it? Carrie Ann said it gave it effort, Len said it was a little bit ponderous and Bruno said it was like the ghost of rock & roll. Can they creep up on first place at this time? Ever?

CARRIE ANN: 6
LEN: 4
BRUNO: 4
Total: 14
For the 3rd time, they couldn't find a higher position than last.

Lastly, Tia & Max. Tia danced with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movies, and now she'll dance with Max doing a tango to "Por Una Cabeza." Both sat on the stairs, Max got up, and Tia got up later on as well. Tia made up with a foot dip, and later did a leg hold and a leg sweep through. By the end, both took a big dip onto the floor. Now we go to the judges one last time: Carrie Ann said she loved what Tia held her hand, Len said ti was like a flower and Bruno said it was a tropical vamp. For the final time, here come the numbers:

CARRIE ANN: 9
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 9
Total: 26
And they knock off 2nd place.

Now that it's over, it's time for a recap: Drew & Cheryl and Stacy & Tony share 1st with 27, while Tia & Max have 26. 3rd place belongs to Lisa & Louis with 25, and Geroge & Edyta and Giselle & Jonathan have 22. Jerry & Anna are right behind them with 19, and still stuck in the cellar for a 3rd week in a row is P. & Ashly with 14.
And with that, it was a tangled tango web woven by our stars and jived with our dance pros, and tomorrow, we'll find out who's game is over now? We're ona 23-hour break. See you tomorrow when we dance with the stars.
