This Tribe Will Self-Destruct in 5... 4... 3... -
December 17 After 36 days, it's finally
come down to the final five...
Day 37:
For Ozzy, Yul, Becky, Sundra, and Adam, it's the
home stretch, although Ozzy thinks that Adam has given up. Sundra, meanwhile,
never discussed what the plan was for the underdogs once they got into the Final
Four. "There'll probably be hurt feelings, but that's the game."
True.
Ozzy thinks it's poetry that he's off to the
final four with the rest of his alliance, but Becky will not hesitate to kick
him the first chance. Winning Immunity is more important than ever.
"North, south, east, west
Every direction is a test.
Slither, run, balance, soar
... Guarantee a spot in the final four."
I-Challenge: The Most Tangled Web EVER.
Hidden through a rope course are puzzle pieces.
Collect the pieces, come back to the web and solve the puzzle. First tribesman
to solve the puzzle wins Immunity. This is said to be the hardest puzzle in the
history of "Survivor."
Yul starts in the lead, but Ozzy makes short work
of the puzzle after throwing himself about the puzzle grid. Ozzy's the last one
standing, giving him Immunity and a 1-in-4 shot at a million dollars.
Back at champ, the former Aitu celebrates. Adam,
meanwhile, would like nothing more than to wrest the hidden Immunity Idol out of
Yul's hands. The only way it seems is to vote for him at Tribal Council and
force it out of play. Adam talks to Ozzy and Sundra about it. He hopes this ladt
ditch effort will work. "Right now I'm still here."
Night 37: Tribal.
Nate has a crutch. Ozzy says that nothing
happened that could change Adam's fate. Adam says that he's given up. Becky
admits Ozzy's Immunity has literally guaranteed the Aitu Alliance a shot in the
next round. Adam notes that Becky and Sundra have been riding the other two's
coattails, while Ozzy says he wants to win on his own. Adam pulls out one final
card, saying that these "boring" people don't take risks. Will they take one
tonight?
Becky: Adam
Adam: "Yule"
Yul: Adam
Sundra: Adam
Final vote... not that it matters...
Ozzy: Adam
Four to one, Adam, THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN. And
we're down to four.
No one can believe that they've made it this far,
booting eight Raro members to make it to the Final Four. Yul thinks of this as a
great morality tale to the character of minorities.
Day 38:
Ozzy enjoys the sunrise, taking in the energy to
win the final Immunity Challenge. But first, as is tradition on day 38, the
tribe will go on an amazing adventure, hiking to the higest point of the nearest
island, all the while collecting the torches of the fallen, and burning them in
an offering to the Survivor Gods that saw them through this adventure.
Wait, Final Immunity Challenge? But there's four
of you!
I-Challenge: Put on a Pedestal
Each of four pedestals in the water have been
proportioned to the tribesmen's foot size, so everything's equal for this final
Challenge. The perch is sectioned into five pieces, and every fifteen minutes,
one of the pieces will be removed until you're down to the final piece, which is
about half the size of a postcard. Last one standing will have a one in three
chance at a million.
And for the first time in Survivor history, the
Final Three will have to face off against a jury of nine for a million.
Fifteen minutes... still four people. First piece
goes.
Thirty minutes... still four people. Second piece
goes.
Forty-five minutes... Becky drops... as does the
third piece.
One hour... final piece... gone. Yul... Gone.
Sundra and Ozzy battle it out for the final
Innumity Talisman. After 2:30... It's Ozzy!
Back at camp, Ozzy congratulates Sundra on an
amazing effort. Sundra thought she had it. So it's back to Yul and Ozzy, the
only two people guaranteed a spot against the Jury in the final, talk about
their options. The way they figure it, they're in the same boat. Ozzy thinks
that the only fair thing to do is force a tie situation and allow Becky and
Sundra to fight it out.
Sundra asks Yul if there will be a surprise in
the night's Tribal. "No."
Night 38: Tribal.
The Raro tribe... Jury. The Aitu tribe... Final
Four. Sundra says she has to be ready for the good and the bad. Ozzy believes
the best thing to do is to force a tiebreaker. Yul says that he will not play
the Immunity Idol if he has it (Jeff, so far as he knows, thinks that Yul has
it). Sundra: "If I get played, then I'm the sucker." Becky thinks accepting the
hidden Idol would look bad in front of the jury. Yul wants to play the game as
clean as he can, respecting loyalty.
The vote...
Ozzy: Becky
Yul: Sundra
Sundra: Becky
Becky: Sundra
Tied, two votes a piece. Jeff signals for a
fire-tiebreaker. First person to break their line is in the Final Three.
And after ninety minutes of watching both women royally screw it, Jeff gives the
two of them matches. Sundra... runs out of matches. Becky lights a fire and
burns her way into the Final! Sundra, the MATCHES HAVE SPOKEN.
And now we've come to....
Day 39: The Final Sunrise
Yul will get to feel human after today. Ozzy has
to keep pinching himself. Becky knows she blew the tiebreaker challenge. The
jury will come after her, but she's proud of the social game she played.
A final feast arrives via boat. Becky is nowhere
to be seen. Ozzy and Yul are the only ones to receive it, a move that Ozzy calls
"symbolic", because he believes that will be the way the vote will swing, mostly
because of "Becky's embarrassing fire-making skills." After finally finding a
wallowing Becky, the feast begins. Yul says his friendship with Becky is worth
more than a million. Ozzy is proud to have acted as a positive role model for
Mexicans. "All I have to do is hold it together one more night."
Final Tribal Council:
You know the deal by now. Nine people that Ozzy,
Becky, and Yul all had a hand in voting out, either directly or through
inaction, hold all the cards. It is up to them to determine who out of the three
of them is worthy enough of a million dollars. Opening statements:
Yul: "I didn't want to play just an individual
game where I just got myself to the final. I feel I've done more than anyone
else to affect the overall course of this game. I don't think it's a coincidence
that I've been on the teams or alliances that ultimately became dominant. I
won't lie that I had to manipulate or deceive people, but I stayed loyal to
people who were loyal to me. I feel like I've earned my way here."
Becky: "I came into this game knowing I'm not going to be the strongest. I had
to rely on my social game and the way I could connect with people. I knew if I
gave my word, I could count on that. Honest and true to my character. That's why
I'm asking for your vote tonight."
Ozzy: "I was the underdog. My people were voted
out the first tribe. I never let that stop me. I'm here to play the game and try
as hard as I can. I knew that if I didn't fish, my ass was gone. I never tried
to hide who I was. I embraced every aspect of this game with my soul. My actions
speak louder than any words I'll be able to."
Nate... "Snap." He calls Yul the gangsta boss and
Ozzy the warrior. Ozzy says he controlled the ultimate fate, "being the Yul of
my tribe", citing the Billy vote Ozzy says he had to rely on himself. Why would
Becky deserve a million over these two? "Whenever you say Yul was the
puppetmaster, it wasn't Yul making the decision himself." Nate... is not
satisfied.
Jenny asks Yul if he planned to play the game
physically or strategically. Yul admits that he allowed Ozzy to be a target.
Parvati asks "Beckers" to convince her to vote
for her. "Beckers" says she doesn't want to be seen as one who "cheated" her way
through the game. "I want to win it the way that I'm proud of."
Rebecca asks Yul and Ozzy to tell her something
she doesn't know to help her decide. Yul wanted to change the image of Asians on
TV. Ozzy wanted to change the image of Mexicans on TV... among other places.
Adam wants Ozzy to rip into the other two, asking
him not to be boring any more. Yul didn't work as hard as he could. Becky was
pathetic at the fire challenge and at riding coattails.
Candice... wants a yes-or-no answer out of Yul.
"My impression is that you've been shamelessly working the jury. Is that true?"
Yul? "Yes."
Brad: "Kudos to all three of you." What has been
the most challenging experience of Ozzy's life? His relationship to his father.
He wants nothing to do with his own son.
Sundra: "What is one thing that you've discovered
about yourself, about life in general, from being in this game?" Ozzy starts on
about learning to love unconditionally. Becky learns to let her schedule go. Yul
lets go of his anxieties.
Jonathan congratulates the three of them on
playing him, then asks Yul to tell "his future constituents" how telling half
truths got him through this game. Yul says Jonathan is absolutely right, saying
that he would NEVER do this to unsuspecting people outside of this game. He
finishes by stating that he did remain loyal to his tribe throughout the game.
Jonathan asks an Ozzy he's found to be arrogant what he plans on doing with the
money. Ozzy says he wants to go back to school.
For the last time... It's time to vote.
Jonathan: "I admired the game that you all
played... but YUL... outplayed you all."
Parvati: OSCAR. "The ultimate competitor. The
fire that you brought to this game completely captivated me. I think taht you
played your heart out. You totally deserve to win this game."
That's one for Yul, and one for Oscar. The rest
of the votes will be revealed...
Tonight: CBS Television City, 7800 Beverly
Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90036.
The final tally...
Yul... Oscar... Yul... Yul... Ozzie... Ozzy...
Ozzie... Yuuuuuuleee...
Final vote. If it is for Becky, the final vote is
tied.
It is not for Becky. Either Yul's mind or Ozzy's
body is worth a million dollars... Take it, Jeff...
"The winner of Survivor Cook Islands..."
...YUL KWON! As he is embraced by his parents and
the 19 Survivors that came before him, it's time for a reunion...
So how did he win it? According to Jeff, he did
so many things "right" in order to keep him in the power position. Finding the
hidden Idol is huge. "Maximizing the good luck and mitigating the bad luck" was
the clue. He thought he was screwed once Candice and Jonathan mutinied. So why
did she do it? "It's just a chance of a lifetime. It didn't work out, but it was
fun." Sundra just think that her tribe gelled. Meanwhile, Yul also was cited for
getting Jonathan to come back over to his side. Adam was also instrumental in
Yul's victory, in that he kept his word to vote his way should Jonathan or
Parvati or both leave the game before he did. That.. floored Ozzy. Well, not
really. The four made that decision themselves, but Ozzy didn't know of the
deal. Yul acknowledges Becky as a power mover as well. Becky will probably most
be remembered as the girl who could not start fire after 38 days. Oh, and
romance between Ozzy and Becky... never entered their minds.
And outside of the game... Yul was named one of
People's sexiest men alive. And the hot tub? "I wanted to get the hell out of
there." What did Yul did once he got home "Got a Costco membership and went
crazy."
"Born to play" is all Ozzy. Where did he come
from? "I just have a very eclectic background. One of the first books I read was
Robinson Crusoe." He knew how to swim and spear-fish. The best part according to
Ozzy... "The whole damn thing." The concrete jungle got to him once he got back.
Getting back to a primal nature got to him. Ozzy's father.. the person who
raised him, here in the crowd.
What about the "Wandering Jew without a tribe?"
Was Jonathan a villain? No, he was just antagonistic. "We're all playing the
game. There's no villain in a poker tournament." The people who called him names
were just advancing their game as well. Jonathan became a lot more appreciative
of the family he has. He's very thankful to have done this. Jenny regrets not
saying anything before she was voted out.
Playing us to the break, the first person voted
out, Sekou Bunch, sitting in with Survivor music gurus David Vanacore and Russ
Landau.
Where about did Cao-Boi come? All his life he
came from "living it his way." This is the "culmination of life experience." Cao
Boi says he's from the old school, thinking about things before acting.
So was it a good idea to divide tribes along
racial lines?
Yul started thinking that it was a mistake, but
over time, he showed that it's who you are inside that counts.
Nate was called a "race traitor". But ergardless
of color, skin, he has to survive. Stephannie and Rebecca thought that he had
their back. "If we're close, I expect you to look after who you are."
Brad thinks that there is pressure to represent
who you are and breaking stereotypes.
Quick question. Candice and Adam... strategy or
romance? Strategy, says Candice. Adam... "Candice is a great girl, but we've got
separate lives now."
Nate and Parvati? Nate says yes there were some
feelings. Parvati... agreed. As for being a boxer... "Model boxing." Yeah,
figured.
JP was contacted by the Janice Dickinson Modeling
Agency. Cristina was joked on by the rest of her police department. Cecilia is
changed for the two rounds she was on the show. Flica says she's not stuck with
the hair.. she embraces it. As for Billy... well, I hear Candice is available
now.
Now, over the season, online viewers such as
yourselves were voting for who played the most clever game. The winner gets a
2008 Mercury Mariner. That vote... was extremely close, between Yul and Ozzy.
The difference was less than 1 percent. Winner... Ozzy! He gets $100,000 and a
new car.
But once again, Yul Kwon, $1 million.

But as one chapter of the Survivor saga comes to
a close, a new chapter will begin. This February, 19 castaways will outwit,
outplay, and try to outlast in "Survivor: Fiji", as one tribe will live the life
of luxury, while the other will be left with virtually nothing. Hope to see you
there. Big thanks to my partner Eric Pierce for helping out. Good night, see you
in Fiji. |
