As a reminder, the coach will set the
sudden death showdowns sight unseen. The singers will be in control of
their own fate, because they will be in control of their own song
choice. The rule is simple: sing each song as if it were your last.
First up...
#TEAMBLAKE: Savannah Berry vs. Justin Rivers
Both of these country artists have a pop
twist, but which is the best of both worlds? Savannah will add a twang
to Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me". She's a writer, but did she
write herself into a corner? Former Christian artist Justin Rivers will
invoke his spirit into "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus. ANOTHER big risk.
Usher says that Savannah's a transcender,
but Justin won the round. Shakira is also won by the note that shook the
heavens. Adam calls Justin "the biggest surprise".
BLAKE CHOOSES: Justin (@justinrivers).
#TEAMUSHER: Josiah Hawley vs. Jess Kellner
Both of these prodigies have distinctive
tones, but can they translate that into character? Josiah's going for a
chick song, "Back to Black" by the late great Amy Winehouse. Meanwhile,
hairdresser Jess is going to try and dress up "You Give Me Something" by
James Morrison... singing about her mom. Anyone who reads this site
knows that that is one of my favorite songs of the last 10 years, and
that I will immediately put my foot on the throat of anyone who messes
this up.
Adam thought they should've done each
other's songs (C-Note: AGREED). Blake thought the performances were
calculated, but liked Jess' song choice.
USHER CHOOSES: Josiah (@JosiahHawley)
#TEAMBLAKE: Holly Tucker vs. Luke Edgemon
They both have a gospel background and
can really project, but will the Baylor marcher or the pastor's kid from
Carolina win this battle? Holly sings "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim
McGraw, hoping to tug at heartstrings and Blake's forte. Luke is just
going to be Luke singing "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry. It's not up to
me, but I predict a trip back to Fayetteville.
Usher thought that Luke's song choice was
"difficult" to connect with. Shakira did connect with it. Adam thought
Holly killed, but he really liked Luke's version of "Teenage Dream",
thinking that there's more to see.
BLAKE CHOOSES: Holly (@HollyTMusic)
Meanwhile, the coaches discuss Blake's
pick, calling him an idiot.
#TEAMUSHER: Audrey Karrasch vs. Michelle
Chamuel
Both had an idea as to what they wanted
to do on the show. The former model wanted to be a pop star. Audrey will
follow that up with "How to Love" by Lil' Wayne. The offbeat nerdy indie
rocker will counter that with "Raise Your Glass" by P!nk. After giving
Usher 20 man push-ups.
Before we get to the judges, let me say
this about Audrey. OUCH. MY EARS. THEY BLEED. Okay.
Shakira said that Michelle was "precise".
Adam thought that Michelle really performed and was unique. Blake said
that Audrey started shaky and never really recovered.
USHER CHOOSES: Michelle (@MichelleChamuel)
#TEAMBLAKE: Danielle Bradbery vs. Taylor
Beckham
Blake calls this "so cute, but so
deadly." We have a young country artist in Danielle vs. a young pop
artist in Taylor. Danielle picks "Jesus Take the Wheel" by Carrie
Underwood. She knows how to play the game. Meanwhile, Taylor and Blake
are "going to make Usher look so foolish" (remember, she was a steal) by
singing "Russian Roulette" by Rihanna.
Usher thought that Taylor didn't pick a
song that did her proper justice, while Danielle took control. Shakira
didn't think Danielle was nervous. Adam calls her a natural.
BLAKE CHOOSES: Danielle (@dbradbery)
#TEAMUSHER: C Perkins vs. Vedo
Both are R&B singers, but Usher can only
focus on one. C lost his battle, but with one of the greatest moments of
the series, Usher stole him. He'll try and return the factor with "She
Ain't You" by Chris Brown. Vedo also earned a spot on Usher's team, but
he's kept it. He's going to keep true to his mother's spirit by
performing Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You". Or as it's
known without lyrics, "Robin & Marian at the Falls".
Shakira tells C needed a little more
control, while Vedo dedicated more to his singing. Adam thought Vedo had
restraint & grace. Blake got the answer we're looking for (the C stands
for "Craig"), but overall, Vedo took it hands down.
USHER CHOOSES: Vedo (@vedothesinger)
Last two pairings.
#TEAMBLAKE: Grace Askew vs. the Swon Brothers
Both have a bluesy country vibe, but
Blake can only concentrate on one. Grace sings "I Can't Stand the Rain"
by Tina Turner, injecting some much needed soul into her lily white
Memphis frame. This could be something special. The Bros. hope for
something special themselves with Dobie Gray's "Drift Away".
Usher wanted Colton to sing a little
more, but thought that Grace's guitar was a distraction. Shakira thought
Grace won it. Adam thought Grace was refreshing, though the brothers had
their best outing.
BLAKE CHOOSES: The Swon Brothers (@TheSwonBrothers).
And the country boy has an all-country team. That worked for him in
season 3. BUT can he do it again in the face of greater competition?
#TEAMUSHER: Ryan Innes vs. Cáthia
It's the last Knockout of the round,
where New Yorker Cáthia, stolen by Usher, faces off against
doctor-turned-bluesman Ryan. Cáthia will choose for her first English
performance "Mr. Know-it-all" by Kelly Clarkson. Ryan is going with "I
Don't Want To Be" by Gavin deGraw, "wanting to show another side of
soul, a rock soul."
Shakira is drawn, calling this decision
"a toughie one". Adam says that he didn't hear Gavin's grit through
Ryan's voice.
USHER CHOOSES: Cáthia (@cathiasings). And
we have our final 16..
So let it be written... So let it be done.

to YOU, America. It's time for Playoffs! Please, please, please, I beg
of you, do not mess this up.
