Battle
Rounds #3
April 22
Last week, the Battles
began, not just between singers on the same team, but
coaches looking to save departed singers using the
Steal. Shakira has used HER two already. Adam and Blake
have used one a piece. But there's still a lot more
blood to be shed when we continue...

We continue on with...
#TEAMUSHER: Jessica Childress vs. Vedo
Jessica gave up a career in PR to play on
the Voice. Vedo is singing for his cancer-stricken mother who, since the
Blind Auditions, passed on. They are not alike as artists. Jessica is
bluesy, while Vedo is more of an R&B singer. Today, both will be "Locked
Out Of Heaven" if they don't nail the Bruno Mars song. The song is out
of Jessica's range, so Vedo may yet have a chance.
Shakira called it "a feel good
performance". Adam wants to befriend Jessica, while thinking that Vedo
was "impressive". Blake says there's no right-or-wrong here.
USHER CHOOSES: Vedo
Anyone willing to take a chance on
Jessica? No? Okay.
#TEAMSHAKIRA: Luke Edgemon vs. Monique
Abbadie
We have small town boy vs. big city girl,
Fayetteville vs. Miami. A seasoned vet vs.... whatever Luke is. Today,
they're going with "Yoü & I" by Lady Gaga. Luke has a bit of an
advantage in being one of the strongest voices on Shakira's team, but
don't count Monique out yet. This is tailored to her wheelhouse.
The guys are awestruck by "Where in the
hell did LUKE come from?" Usher thought it was romantic.
SHAKIRA CHOOSES: Monique... in what she
calls a "strategic decision".
Luke is available for a steal... BLAKE is
in! USHER'S in! What will Luke decide? He's ALSO going to be strategic
and... pick BLAKE. Win with a winner.
#TEAMBLAKE: Jacqui Sandell vs. Savannah Berry
Jacqui's striking out on her own after
doing the band thing. Savannah wants to turn a YouTube career into
something real. Together, they will do battle with "Little White Church"
by Little Big Town, a nod to Savannah and her clear country voice.
Jacqui is going to have to put a little of herself into a genre that she
is not familiar with.
Jacqui is the better singer. Savannah's
the better performer. That's MY thing. Adam thought they were great
together. Usher says both singers put their own "thang". Shakira says
Jacqui was uncomfortable with the low notes, while Savannah had some
range and inflection.
BLAKE CHOOSES: Savannah. In a move that
comes as a shock to no one.
Jacqui is hoping to sell herself to
somebody... going ONCE... going TWICE.... NO SALE.
#TEAMSHAKIRA: C Perkins vs. Kris Thomas
Two R&B singers, one a cashier from
Louisiana, the other, a MAN from Tennessee. One got Shakira to turn her
chair... the other got the other coaches to call shenanigans. Their
song... is also from a man, "It Will Rain". It has the up-tenor voice
range that Kris is known for, while it plays to the edge that C has,
being that the song is out of Kris's wheelhouse (so he freely admits).
Adam thought both were great. Blake is
wondering if we've seen everything from these two. Usher can't decide
who wins that. Shakira has to.
SHAKIRA CHOOSES: Kris. I hope those jerks
are watching.
C is still available... And C is off the
table. And out of the competition. WAIT spoke too soon. USHER steals!
#TEAMADAM: Midas Whale vs. Patrick Dodd
One's an Ohio folk duo with a repeat
offender that turned all four chairs. Patrick's a Beale Street regular
who turned Adam & Shakira. The song of import: Elvis. "Burning Love".
All three are in tune with each other, which should make for an
interesting battle. A lot of duos fail in battle because one is weaker
than the other. They both have to be strong.
Blake thought it was "awesome", while
Usher thought it was "a kickass job". Shakira thought that Midas Whale
was "charismatic", while Patrick was impressive.
ADAM CHOOSES: Midas Whale
An agonizing decision on Adam's part. Can
one judge capitalize? Usher? Guess not.
Last up....
#TEAMUSHER: Orlando Dixon vs. Ryan Innes
Soul vs. blues. Both have a great
opportunity to teach each other some new technical tricks. They say
"iron sharpens iron". To that end, they're going to close the show out
with "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers. This could be fought to a
draw. We've definitely saved the best battle of the night for last.
Shakira can't pick tonight. Adam can. He
picks Orlando. Blake picks Ryan, the man's man.
USHER CHOOSES: Ryan
Adam has one steal left. Will he use it
to save Orlando? YES!
