Last week, we began stage 2,
the ultimate test of strength and endurance. So far, six
athletes have made it through where Brent Steffensen
stood alone last year. Now with one episode remaining
and two stages to cover, the question remains... can
ANYONE climb to the mountaintop, claim the $500,000, and
earn the title of AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR! LAS VEGAS
Mt. Midoriyama
Stage 2 will test strength and endurance.
Stage 3 is the ultimate test of upper body strength. Survive all of
that, and only the Big Tower awaits. There is no substitute for total
victory. Only the one who summits the Big Tower at the end will claim
$500,000.
Waiting for our players in Stage 2...
- HANG SLIDER: grab a handle and safely
land on the platform below without hitting the water.
- DOUBLE SALMON LADDER: traverse up the ladder... and then hop onto the
second.
- UNSTABLE BRIDGE: two planks, the last one rockier than the first.
- BALANCE TANK: stay upright as you roll 16 feet down.
- METAL SPIN: swing around the metal and then...
- WALL LIFT: three walls - 66, 88, and 110 pounds.
The combatants will have 2:05 to finish.
Do so, and stage 3 awaits.
We begin with the final runners of Stage
2...
- Dr. Noah Kaufman (38; South Lake Tahoe,
NV; ER physician): FAIL Double Salmon Ladder
- Brian Arnold (35; Brighton, CO;
maintenance director): COMPLETE! (0:26.23)
And with that, we come to the last
runner... The last time Brent Steffensen faced the Salmon Ladder, it
ended... badly.
- Brent Steffensen (33; San Antonio;
obstacle race trainer): .... FAIL Double Salmon Ladder
And we end with the ULTIMATE HEARTBREAK
for the ultimate athlete. But his loss is THEIR gain...
LEADERBOARD
1) CASEY FINLEY (:41)
2) JAMES McGRATH (:36)
3) IDOKO ABUH (:29)
4) BRIAN ARNOLD (:26)
5) JOE MORAVSKY (:18)
6) TRAVIS WEINAND (:10)
7) TRAVIS ROSEN (:05)
Now we go to STAGE 3. This is the
ultimate test of upper body strength. There are eight obstacles, each
one more punishing than the next.
- ROULETTE CYLINDER: Guide the cylinder
by traversing the wheel's spokes.
- DOORKNOB GRASPER: Swing around wall-mounted doorknobs.
- FLOATING BOARDS: Four boards, each one suspended by ropes with ZERO
ledge to take hold
- ULTIMATE CLIFFHANGER: Each ledge remains at barely an inch thick.
- BUNGEE ROPE CLIMB: Three ropes of varying length
- HANG CLIMB: Inverted rock climbing wall
- SPIDER FLIP: Hang crawl to the ledge, jump, then hang crawl down.
- FLYING BAR: A vertical version of the Salmon Ladder
It's the ultimate test of will to win.
There is NO time limit. All you have to do is finish. Tough ask when you
consider that NO AMERICAN has ever finished it. But if you do, you WILL
challenge the Big Tower.
First up, the oldest competitor remaining
and also the most seasoned, Travis Rosen. He has trained predominantly
for Stage 3, but will it be enough to conquer it?
- FAIL Floating Boards
Next up, another Travis, Travis Weinand,
an artist who has taken Stages 1 and 2 and turned them into
masterpieces. Now comes his magnum opus. Will he be a master of Stage 3?
- FAIL Doorknob Grasper
Now comes the most dynamic competitor of
the last three years, Seattle's own James "The Beast" McGrath.
- FAIL Floating Boards
And just like that, the Beast gets tamed.
Four runners to go. The first of the four is rookie from Orlando, Idoko
Abuh. He's had quiet confident throughout the competition, but now it's
time to make the statement.
- FAIL Roulette Cylinder
... and the statement is "glub glub glub."
What about Brent Steffensen's friend,
world class tumbler Casey Finley?
- FAIL Roulette Cylinder
Down to the final two runners. The first
up is weatherman Joe Moravsky. He has forecast Total Victory. But will
this five-day be wrong?
- FAIL Floating Boards
... downgraded to a depression.
