Denver
Qualifier 1
July 21
Ninety athletes have
proven themselves worthy to challenge the city finals
stage of the competition. With one city left, 30 more
will soar miles above the Mile High City, while the rest
will just be... sore.
DENVER
Civic Center Park
We begin with the standard six, four of
which are making their ANW debut tonight.
- QUINTUPLE STEPS: five steps, seven feet
between each one.
- ROLLING LOG: grab the log and hold on through three 360 degree
revolutions.
- ROTATING BRIDGE: run across before it turns and tumbles.
- JUMP HANG KAI: the next level in the classic Jump Hang... This time,
there are TWO cargo nets.
- GRIP HANG: traverse across three hanging planks.
- WARPED WALL: Fourteen feet, three tries.
As a reminder, it's win.... and in. Anyone who finishes the
qualifier moves on to the regional final and move one step closer to the
American Sasuke course in Las Vegas. If we have less than 30 complete,
the remaining spots go to the fastest and the furthest.
First up...
- Donovan Metoyer (26; Kansas City, MO;
college student) - FAIL Rotating Bridge... with one shoe
- Terin Humphrey (26; Raymore, MO; Olympic gymnast & police officer) -
FAIL Grip Hang.
Eight more don't even go THAT far.
- KC Ushijima (32; American Fork, UT;
attorney) - FAIL Rolling Log
- Graham Watanabe (31; Sun Valley, ID; retired snowboarder) - COMPLETE!
Six more athletes... aren't lucky on the
Grip Hang. The four others... they mash the button, including Keith
"Easy Money" Peters.
- Isaac Caldiero (31; Denver; rock
climber) - COMPLETE! (6)
Now it's time for Isaac's girlfriend...
- Laura Kisana (28; La Verkin, UT; barista) - FAIL Grip Hang
Eleven players were downed, but Adam
Parkhurst and six others succeeded.
- Colby Frontiero (30; Casper, WY;
English teacher) - COMPLETE! (14)
Eight more competitors finish, including
Casey Finley. Four more though ended up tasting bitter defeat.
- Dorian Cedars (37; Vail, CO;
cheerleading coach) - A Ninja Warrior All-Star who competed on every
season. But last year, he hit the button 0.7 seconds too late. This
year... FAIL Warped Wall
We're down to our final runner... and
it's an all-star.
- Paul "Mr. Consistency" Kasemir (26;
Longmont, CO; engineer) - COMPLETE! (23)
By the end of the night, an incredible
run in Denver...
