Semifinals: Harris/Kaczmarek/Marin
May 5

Every month this season, three celebrities came to play... Only one would win and be crowned among the best. Now it's time see who's the best OF the best. And at the end, one celebrity will win $1 million for their charity. Win today, and you move on to the final level, where the $50,000 you won in the prelims could be transformed into $1 million. Lose... and you go home with another $50,000. Any and all monies will be determined by how far up the ladder a player goes.

Last time, Michael McKean followed up his championship-worthy performance in the prelims with a win over Isaac Mizrahi and Charles Shaughnessy in the semis. Now he and Jane Curtin are on Finalists' Row, awaiting the winner of THIS match...

Daily Double: $1000 State the State. Cheech leads with $4000, but Neil on $3400 and Jane at $3200 are not far behind. Cheech bets $1000 on this: the flag of this state features a Seminole woman scattering flowers. "What is Florida?" Correct for $5000!

Scores at the half.

Note on category #2, two movie titles. One word in common.

Daily Double #1: $800 Rhyme Time. Neil is way behind with $3400. Jane has $6600, and Cheech is six bills short of 10 large. Neil... is going for it! The clue: a radio personality who provokes & pushes the limits of decency. "What is a shock jock?" CORRECT for $6800!

Daily Double #2: $1200 Mayors. Jane has $8600 in third, and she can make it a nice match. "$5000! Wait, that's too much!" Too late, the bid is locked. Here's the clue. In the 1800s, Josiah Quincy, his son & grandson all served as mayor of this capital. "What is Boston?" Nice for $13,600!

$12,000 $15,200 $16,200
Neil Jane Cheech

J-Archive.com calls this a 4/5 play...

- Neil wins if he covers Jane by bidding $3201 and covers Cheech's double-up by bidding $5600.
- Jane wins if she gets it right and Cheech gets it wrong. How much she wants to put at risk is up to her, be it to cover Neil's score ($8801) or Cheech's ($13,200)
- Cheech wins if he bets $14,201 and is correct.

Final Jeopardy! category: MOVIE HISTORY

DURING THE MAKING OF THIS CLASSIC, SETS FROM "KING KONG" & "THE GARDEN OF ALLAH" WERE INTENTIONALLY BURNED DOWN

Correct response: what is "Gone With The Wind"?

Neil's response: What is Gone With the Wind? RIGHT. Wager: $12,000. Total: $24,000.
Jane's response: What is Gone With The Wind? RIGHT. Wager: $1001. Total: $16,201.
Cheech's response: What is Gone With The Wind!? RIGHT. Wager: $15,000. Total: $31,200.

FINALIST: Cheech Marin

As a result of today's game, Neil and Jane both leave with $100,000 for their charities.

Now we can talk about strategic wagers all we want, but the truth is that in semi-final play, you play to win. That's where Jane fell a bit short and Cheech rose to the top. A great play by all three as we look forward to the final stage with these three Hollywood squares...

Final play starts tomorrow!
