Preliminaries: Sajak/Perkins/Savant
January 21

Last time on the Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational, Harry Shearer outlasted a close Final Jeopardy!, earning seat #4 in the Million Dollar Tournament Week in May, joining Michael McKean, Andy Richter, and Jane Kaczmarek.

We still need five more semifinalists, though, so today, and every third Thursday of every month, another winner will be crowed and will move one step closer to winning the top prize of $1 million for the charity of his or her choice.

The player who wins this game (and the four to follow) will donate at least $50,000 to their charity. The runners-up will take away $25,000. Any and all monies will be determined by how far up the ladder a player goes.

This month's stars are...

Pat Sajak
"Wheel of Fortune"
Vietnam Veterans of America
Elizabeth Perkins
"Weeds"
Doug Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund
Doug Savant
"Desperate Housewives"
St. Vincent's Meals on Wheels

Daily Double: $600 Nuts Landing. With $6800, Pat is taking Elizabeth and Doug to school with $2000 and $1600 respectively. He makes it $3200 to go on this: the name of this nut can also mean a stale joke or a reddish-brown horse. "What is a chestnut?" Correct for $10,000!

Daily Double #1: $800 Backing Bands. Two words... "Damn, Sajak." Pat's got $14,200 to bet with. He fronts $4200 on this: The Jordanaires have been called "the Sound Behind the King" for their work with him. "Oh thank you. Who is Elvis Presley?" $18,400!

Daily Double #2: $1600 Remembering Ted Kennedy. With one clue after this one, Elizabeth can make a game of this with $13,800 to Pat's $32,400. "I think I need to do a real Daily Double." It's actually a True Daily Double, but for $27,600... Kennedy called this the cause of his life &* was hoping to see a reform bill passed before he died. "What is health care?" $27,600!

At the end of Double Jeopardy!...

$32,400 $27,600 $4,800
Pat Elizabeth Doug

J-Archive.com calls this a first equals second plus third and an intermediate Shore's Conjecture.

- Doug wins if... Pat and Elizabeth bet against each other and lose, while he bets EVERYTHING and is right.
- Elizabeth wins if... she bets everything and is right, while Pat is wrong.
- Pat wins if... he bets $22,800 and is right. Or he could play against a loss and bet $13,201.

Final Jeopardy! category: COMIC STRIP CHARACTERS

CREATED IN 1950, HE FINALLY HIT A HOME RUN ON MARCH 30, 1993

Correct response: who is Charlie Brown?

Doug's response: who is Charley Brown? CORRECT. Wager: $4699. Total: $9499.
Elizabeth's response: who is Andy Call? WRONG. Wager: $27,600. Total: $0.
Pat's response: who is Charlie Brown? CORRECT. Wager: $22,900. Total: $55,300.

SEMI-FINALIST: Pat Sajak

No two ways about this. This was Sajak's game from start to finish. This is going to be an interesting championship week, to say the least.

Three new stars next month, February 18.
