Preliminaries: Abdul-Jabbar/O'Brien/McKean
October 15

Last time on the Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational, Andy Richter wiped the floor with both Dana Delany and Wolf Blitzer, taking the first chair in the celebrity semifinal in May and pocketing $68,000 for St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Today, and every third Thursday of every month, another winner will be crowned and will move one step closer to winning the top prize of $1 million for the charity of his or her choice.

The player who wins this game (and the seven to follow) will donate at least $50,000 to their charity. The runners-up will take away $25,000. Any and all monies will be determined by how far up the ladder a player goes.

This month's stars are...

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
NBA Hall of Famer
Skyhook Foundation
Soledad O'Brien
host, "CNN Special Investigations Unit"
Soledad O'Brien and Brad Raymond Family Foundation
Michael McKean
actor/comedian
International Myeloma Foundation

Daily Double #1: $800 I Went to UCLA. Before we get into this, we have a bit of a boner on Kareem's end... The clue is for $400...

Tell your old man to drag this '70s UCLA & Trail Blazer center (& Lanier!) up & down the court for 48 minutes.

Kareem: "Who is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?" No, dude, you said it about BILL WALTON.

Back to the matter at hand. He has $12,400 to Michael's $16,200. Soledad has $5000. Kareem bets $8000 on this: Kirsten Gillibrand got her law degree from UCLA in 1991 & filled the Senate seat left vacant by this woman in 2009. "Who is Sandra Day O'Connor?" SENATE SEAT! It was Hillary Clinton, leaving him with $4400.

Daily Double #2: $800 Listen to the Flower People. Soledad dipped a little to $4200 to Kareem's $4400. Michael now has $17,400. She has to bet everything to stand a chance. She bets... $3000 on this: my Latin teacher often reminded me that the name of this month comes from a Latin word meaning "when flower buds open". "What is April?" Correct for $7200!

At the end of Double Jeopardy!...

$4,400 $7,200 $17,400
Kareem Soledad Michael

Even if Soledad bet everything, she still wouldn't have a hope to catch Michael, who has this game locked.

Final Jeopardy! category: BIBLICAL NAMES

TREES WITH BIBLICAL NAMES INCLUDE THE JOSHUA TREE & THE WORLD'S OLDEST TREE, A 4700-YEAR-OLD PINE NAMED FOR HIM

Correct response: who is Methuselah?

Kareem's response: who is Methuselah? CORRECT. Wager: $4400. Total: $8800.
Soledad's response: who is Moses? WRONG. Wager: $1000. Total: $6200.
Michael's response: who is Methusala? CORRECT. Wager doesn't matter.

SEMI-FINALIST: Michael McKean

This was a little closer than the last match, but Michael McKean's put himself into the door, with $50,000 going to the International Myeloma Foundation. The other charities will receive $25,000.

Three new stars next month, November 19.
