Preliminaries: Cooper/Tyler/Marin
March 18

Last time on the Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational, Charles Shaughnessy took away $50,000 for the 1736 Family Crisis Center, joining the May bracket that includes Michael McKean, Andy Richter, Jane Kaczmarek, Harry Shearer, and Pat Sajak. Today, Seat #7 is up for grabs.

We still need three more semifinalists, though, so today, and every third Thursday of every month, another winner will be crowned and will move one step closer to winning the top prize of $1 million for the charity of his or her choice.

The player who wins this game (and the two to follow) will donate at least $50,000 to their charity. The runners-up will take away $25,000. Any and all monies will be determined by how far up the ladder a player goes.

This month's stars are...

Anderson Cooper
"Anderson Cooper 360" and "60 Minutes"
Friends in Deed
Aisha Tyler
"Archer"
International Rescue Committee
Cheech Marin
Cars
Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Daily Double $2000 Is This Place for Real? The last clue of the board goes to Aisha with $2600. Cheech leads with $4200. She bets the level on this: Spanish conquistadors long sought this mythical city of gold in the Americas. "What is El Dorado?" A childhood wasted on Nickelodeon would've gotten Aisha that one. As it is, here are the scores going into Double Jeopardy!...

$2,800 $1,600 $4,200
Anderson Aisha Cheech

Double Jeopardy! categories:

Daily Double #1: $1200 Art & Artists. Cheech leads by $3000. He bets $2000 of it on this: the world's largest collection of this post-impressionist's work is at the Amsterdam Museum named for him. "Who is Vincent Van Gogh?" Correct for $8200.

Daily Double #2: $2000 World Leaders. Anderson now leads the game by $200, $8800 to Cheech's $8600. He bets $2000 on this: in 1980 she became prime minister of her country for a fourth term. "Who ... who is... Margaret Thatcher?" Nope, it's Indira Gandhi, dropping him to $6800.

At the end of Double Jeopardy!...

$8,000 $8,000 $14,200
Anderson Aisha Cheech

J-Archive.com calls this the Prisoner's Dilemma.

- Anderson and Aisha can't win in regulation, so their only hope is to bet it all and force a tiebreaking clue.
- Cheech can make the tiebreaker a moot point if he bets $1801 and is correct.

Final Jeopardy! category: AUTHORS

IN 1890 HE WITNESSED A MILE CYCLONE IN ABERDEEN, SOUTH DAKOTA, FODDER FOR HIS MOST FAMOUS NOVEL

Correct response: who was L. Frank Baum?

Anderson's response: who? WRONG. Wager: $8000. Total: $0.
Aisha's response: who is Faulkner? WRONG. Wager: $8000. Total: $0.
Cheech's response: who is Stephen King? WRONG. Wager: $4000.

SEMI-FINALIST: Cheech Marin

Cheech was a good player all around, and he could've locked it away if Anderson and Aisha made a few missteps. He'll be interesting to watch in the May semis.

Three new stars next month, April 15.
