Semifinals: McKean/Mizrahi/Shaughnessy
May 4

Every month this season, three celebrities came to play... Only one would win and be crowned among the best. Now it's time see who's the best OF the best. And at the end, one celebrity will win $1 million for their charity. Win today, and you move on to the final level, where the $50,000 you won in the prelims could be transformed into $1 million. Lose... and you go home with another $50,000. Any and all monies will be determined by how far up the ladder a player goes.

Last time, Jane Curtin pulled the upset, besting Pat Sajak and Harry Shearer for the right to play in the final of the tournament. Tonight, three more stars will compete for another seat on Finalists' Row. BUT not without a twist. Andy Richter, who won the first preliminary back in September, is currently on tour with Conan O'Brien's "Legally Prohibited To Be Funny on TV" Tour, so in comes the highest scoring non-winner...

Michael McKean
actor/comedian
International Myeloma Foundation
Isaac Mizrahi
"The Fashion Show"
Good Shepherd Services
Charles Shaughnessy
"Mad Men"
1736 Family Crisis Center

First, Isaac is given another $25,000 for his charity.

Daily Double: $1000 Get A Whiff Of This. Isaac has been making out like a bandit on this category. He can add to his $3600 and make a game against Michael's $6200. He goes for $3000 on this: YSL ("Yves St. Laurent") introduced this exotic perfume in 1977--it's addictive. "What is Opium?" RIGHT for $6600!

Scores at the half.

Daily Double #1: $1600 Name the James. Michael retakes the lead with $14,400, but Charles can usurp him with $10,800. He wagers $4000... That'll do it. The clue: ... who, for the 1992 election, coined the phrase "It's the economy, stupid". "Who is James Carville?" Correct for $14,800 and the lead!

Daily Double #2: $2000 Forbes' Richest People. Last clue in the round, and Michael has $16,800, up against $18,000 for Charles. He bets $2800 on this: the appropriately named Li Ka-Shing is the richest man from this island territory that changed hands in 1997. "What is Hong Kong?" Correct! At the end of Double Jeopardy!...

Michael Isaac Charles

J-Archive.com calls this a 4/5 play...

- Isaac wins if he covers Charles by bidding $3401 and covers Michael's double-up by bidding $7800.
- Charles wins if he gets it right and Michael gets it wrong. How much he wants to put at risk is up to him, be it to cover Isaac's score ($11,201) or Michael's ($14,800)
- Michael wins if he bets $16,401 and is correct.

Final Jeopardy! category: OFFICIAL STATE SONGS

IN 1953 IT BECAME THE ONLY STATE WHOSE OFFICIAL SONG WAS WRITTEN FOR A BROADWAY MUSICAL

Correct response: what is Oklahoma?

Isaac's response: What is Oklahoma? RIGHT. Wager: $14,000. Total: $28,600.
Charles' response: What is Hawaii? WRONG. Wager: $1601. Total: $16,399.
Michael's response: What is Oklahoma!? RIGHT. Wager: $15,700. Total: $37,100.

FINALIST: Michael McKean

I wish you could hear Annette O'Toole in the audience screaming. Meanwhile, I'm screaming at how epic this battle was. This came down to the wire. Michael did what he had to do, and as a result remains a man to watch in the final. The runners-up leave with $100,000 each.

Three more stars tomorrow.
