Preliminaries: Blitzer/Delany/Richter
September

For years, some of the best and brightest celebrities have come to play the Big Board on Jeopardy!, but they've never played it like this. Twenty-seven of them have been invited back to play in a season-long tournament, where one of them will be crowned champion. With that title comes a $1 million payout to the charity of his or her choice.

Here's how it works... Every third Thursday of every month, three stars will compete. The winner will move on to the semifinals in May. Nine winners, nine semifinalists. They'll compete tournament style for a week. More on that as we approach the championship week.

Now we've talked game, now we're going to talk money. The player who wins this game (and the eight to follow) will donate at least $50,000 to their charity. The runners-up will take away $25,000. Any and all monies will be determined by how far up the ladder a player goes.

Our first three stars are...

Wolf Blitzer
CNN's "The Situation Room"
American Cancer Society
Dana Delany
"Desperate Housewives"
Scleroderma Research Foundation
Andy Richter
"The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien"
St. Jude Children's Hospital

ANDY IS DANDY SCIENTISTS 2-LETTER

SURPRISE ME, TREBEK!

Daily Double: $600 Scientists. Andy finds it with $8000 to Dana's $3600 and Wolf's $1400. He bets $3000 on this: Time Magazine's "Person of the Century", this scientist first appeared on its cover in 1929. "Who is Albert Einstein?" Correct for $11,000!

At the end of the Jeopardy! round...

$1,400 $3,600 $11,800
Wolf Dana Andy

Double Jeopardy! categories:

PEOPLE
SEXIEST MAN
ALIVE

Daily Double #1: $2000 In the Bookstore. Andy finds it and is on a tear with $25,800. Dana still has $5600. Wolf put an unnecessary "S" on a previous response, so we dock him before any wagering. He's now at only $200. Andy fronts a whopping $10,000 on this: he wrote books on fishing & hunting, & you might also enjoy his classic "A Farewell to Arms". "Who is Hemingway?" Correct for $35,800! WOW!

Second Daily Double goes unclaimed. At the end of the Double Jeopardy! Round...

-$4,600 $4,800 $39,000
Wolf Dana Andy

There's no other way to say it... Blitzer just got Richtered. But since this is a celebrity game, all three will return for the final round, as Wolf is spotted $5600 to go to positive-$1000 even.

Final Jeopardy! category: FAMOUS ACTORS

IRONICALLY, HE LOST THE LEADING ROLE IN THE 1960 PLAY "THE BEST MAN" BECAUSE HE DIDN'T LOOK PRESIDENTIAL

Correct response: who was Ronald Reagain?

Wolf's response: who is Ronald Reagan? CORRECT. Wager: $1000. Total: $2000.
Dana's response: who is Ronald Reagan? CORRECT. Wager: $4500. Total: $9300.
Andy's response: who is Ronald Reagan? CORRECT. Wager for money purposes only: $29,000. Total: $68,000.

SEMI-FINALIST: Andy Richter

Nothing need be said but he was on point today. If he continues like that, he's going all the way. But for now, Jeopardy! will cut him a check for $68,000 for St. Jude's, while the other charities will receive $25,000.

Three new stars next month, October 15.
