Finals:
BU/SAU/Yale - Part 2
November
19
Last week, fifteen of the best and
brightest of the hallowed halls and dorm rooms of academia descended
upon the hallowed halls and studios of Sony Pictures to pitch
intellectual combat, three at a time. Now the cream of the cram has
risen to the top, as Boston University's Erin McLean, Southern
Adventist's Hans von Walter, and Yale's Sam Spaulding try to make their
tuition money tonight and Friday. At stake: the Jeopardy! Globe,
$100,000, a spot in the quarter-million dollar Tournament of
Champions... and the title of Jeopardy! College Champion.
Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while
third will get $25,000 in a standard two-week event. All players are guaranteed a
Nintendo Wii with THQ's "Jeopardy!"
for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how
far up the ladder a player goes.
And we're half an hour away from a big money
moment...

Daily Double: $800 A Nation Divided.
Hans has $3800 to $4000 for Erin and $4400 for Sam. He wants to make it true.
He's gotta do it. The clue: in 1971 it broke away from what's now Pakistan,
which of 1100 miles away anyhow. "What is Bangladesh?" That was Erin screaming,
by the way. He's got $7600.

Daily Double #1: $2000 Word Origins.
Hans is back in it with $11,000, six bills behind his competition. He bets $4000
on this: Murray Gell-Mann adopted this word for various hypothetical particles
from "Finnegan's Wake." "What are quarks?" RIGHT! That's $15,000!
Second Daily Double: $1600 Gardens.
Erin is $2600 behind the leader. She bets $200 more than that on this: in 1913
his wife Ellen planted the first actual rose garden in the White House's west
garden. "Um, who is Wilson?" Correct for $15,600!

If Hans is to stand ANY
chance, he cannot miss the Final. Otherwise, we're looking at a
two-person tournament. In order to win the tournament, Erin has to be
$2002 and be correct. Anything less, and it's Sam's game if he plays
everything.
