Semifinals: Boston U/TX A&M/AZ State
November
15
Last week, fifteen of the best and
brightest of the hallowed halls and dorm rooms of academia descended
upon the hallowed halls and studios of Sony Pictures to pitch
intellectual combat, three at a time. Now the cream of the cram has
risen to the top, but there is still one more level to go. The winners
of this game and the two to follow will reach that level and compete for
$100,000, a spot in the quarter-million dollar Tournament of
Champions... and the title of Jeopardy! College Champion.
Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while
third will get $25,000 in a standard two-week event. Semifinalists are
guaranteed at least $10,000, while all players are guaranteed a
Nintendo Wii with THQ's "Jeopardy!"
for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how
far up the ladder a player goes.
These nine are going to be friends
forever... but for the next week, where the familiar mantra is "Win...
or go home", it's all business.
And now, game one of the semis...

Daily Double: $600 State Facts.
After a line ruling that gives Erin back some money to the total of $1000, Kyle
gets to play with his $600. He makes it true on this: this state was named for
the king of England who reigned form 1727 to 1760. "What is Georgia?" That...
would've been right, but King Connecticut drops him to zero.

Video Daily Double #1: $1600 Since
the Iron Curtain. Marshall has $3400. Kyle leads with $7600. The best he can
hope for is second place. "I'll make it a True Daily Double." That's what we
wanna hear! The clue: 500,000 people, many lighting candles, marched in this
country in 2005 to honor the late Pope. "What is Vatican City?" Down you go. It
was Poland.
Daily Double #2: $2000 G-Force. Marshall can risk up
to $2000. He halves that on this: Newton said the
gravitational force between 2 objects is inversely
related to this square of this measurement. "What is
the distance between the two objects?" Correct for
$2600!

Marshall couldn't keep pace, and
barring a mistake from the other two, he's going to pay dearly. The strategy
from J-Archive.com...
- Marshall wins if... Both Erin and
Kyle suddenly become drunk with power.
- Kyle wins if... he bets between
$3401 and $4400 and is correct, while Erin wagers nothing.
- Erin wins if... she bets between
$7801 and $8599 and is correct.

Marshall's response: what is hockey? WRONG. Wager:

Kyle's response: what is hockey mini-golf? WRONG. Wager: $11,199. Total:
$1.
Erin's response: what is field hockey? CORRECT. Wager
doesn't matter.
FINALIST:
Erin McLean
There was no question or
doubt that Erin came to play today. She was locked toe-to-toe with Kyle
for the top spot, but when he fell, that when she juiced her stash. Of
course, it helped a lot that she knew her online retailers. She stands a
really good shot at winning the whole thing if she plays like that at
the end of the week.
Smile. You deserve it.
Next time, game #2 of the
semis. Stay
