Preliminaries: BU/FL State/Southern
November
9
Fifteen undergrads. Fifteen schools. In
the end, there can only be but one. On the line in this fortnight of
intellectual fortitude, $100,000... bragging rights as the 2011 College
Champion... and a place in the 2011 Tournament of Champions.
Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while
third will get $25,000 in a standard two-week event. Semifinalists are
guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000
for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how
far up the ladder a player goes.
Only nine of the fifteen that compete this week will be invited to
return next week, however, the five winners this week and four wild card
top-scorers.
So far, Sid Chandrasekhar from Penn is guaranteed to be in next week's
semis. Who'll join him?

Daily Double: $1000 Them Crooked
Vultures. Erin is lagging behind with $2200 to Lea's $2800 and Hans' $4800. She
risks the level on this: this word for the type of bird vultures are is from an
old word meaning a toll collector. "What is... a falcon?" No, a scavenger,
leaves her with $1200.

"I cannot and will not retract anything." "Who is Martin Luther?" Correct to
double to $1200!
Daily Double #2: $1200 the Muses. Erin now leads by
$1000 over Hans. She bets $1200 on this: Clio is the
muse of this & is often depicted with a scroll
perhaps to record the deeds of men through the ages.
"What is history?" Correct for $9800!

SEMI-FINALIST:
Erin McLean
Seems like a very close
race. Looks like it's going to be a fight for those four wild card
spots. Thanks to a late-round surge, Erin comes back to be in prime
position, but she's going to need that energy all the time if she wants
to be in next Thursday's show.
Two down, three to go. Stay
thirsty, my friends...
