Semifinals: UCLA/OH St./Southern
November
16
Last week, fifteen of the best and
brightest of the hallowed halls and dorm rooms of academia descended
upon the hallowed halls and studios of Sony Pictures to pitch
intellectual combat, three at a time. Now the cream of the cram has
risen to the top, but there is still one more level to go. The winners
of this game and the two to follow will reach that level and compete for
$100,000, a spot in the quarter-million dollar Tournament of
Champions... and the title of Jeopardy! College Champion.
Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while
third will get $25,000 in a standard two-week event. Semifinalists are
guaranteed at least $10,000, while all players are guaranteed a
Nintendo Wii with THQ's "Jeopardy!"
for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how
far up the ladder a player goes.
Yesterday, Erin McLean went where no BU
student has gone before... that I can remember. She awaits the winners
of these next two matches. The first begins with...

Hans is going for it on this: November 10, 1871: these 2 have a historic meeting
in the central African village of Ujiji. "Who are Stanley & Livingstone?"
Correct for $4800!
At the end of the Jeopardy! round...
Hans learns that good things happen when you ring in once in a while.

Daily Double #1: $1600 Peninsulas.
Hans went hunting and came up with it on the first shot. He has $11,800 and is
WAY out in front. He bets $3200 of it on this: the Adriatic, Ionian & Black Seas
wash the shores of this peninsula. "What's... What is the Balkan Peninsula?"
CORRECT for $15,000!
Daily Double #2: $1600 Archaeology. Hans went
hunting again, and this time, he can put the game
away with $19,400. He bets the level on this: also
called "foragers", these hyphenated early nomadic
people depended on wild food sources. "What are
nomadic-hyphen-people?" Nope, but clever. It was
hunter-gatherers, leaving him with $17,800.

FINALIST:
Hans von Walter
One word. STUDMUFFIN. He
came out with guns blazing, he knew what he had to do, he attacked the
board. If he plays like that at the end of the week, you can just cut
him the check right now.
But there's still ONE more
final spot to be inherited. Stay
thirsty, my friends.
