Finals:
Beachum/Chung/Zsenak - Part 2
May 16
While college seniors all
across the country are graduating, nine of last week's players are
graduating to the next level, the semi-finals. For three of them, the
road to $100,000 and a slot in the next Tournament of Champions
continues. For the other six, the dream ends here at the Kohl Center in
Madison.
This Spring Classic is
another standard two-week affair, advancing the winners of last week's
games as well as four wild-cards, high scorers among non-winners. All of
this week's players will be
guaranteed $10,000 for their participation. And in the end, only the
winner will advance, hence the phrase, "Win or go home."
The first runner-up receives
$50,000 at least, while the second runner-up wins at least $25,000. As
always, any and all winnings accrued depends on how far up the ladder a
player goes.
And then... there were
three.

Daily Double #1: $1600 Hail to the
Chief. Joey leads by a mile with $11,800 to Andrew's $3400 and Danielle's $2600.
He bets $5000 on this: in the 1912 Election, he defeated the sitting President &
a former President. "Who is Woodrow Wilson?" Correct for $16,800!
Daily Double #2: $1600 What's Wrong
with Me? Andrew trails by a hefty amount. He needs to make a big bet to stay
alive... "At this point, it's go big or go home. $4200." The clue: if you have a
case of singultus, relax, it's just these spasms of the diaphragm. "*Hic* What
are hiccups?" Correct for $8400!

Danielle |
Now let's take a look...
Andrew has to bet at least
$7602 to match Danielle's total from yesterday, meaning that at this
point, he's pretty much playing for pride. Better to bet it all.
The best score Danielle can
post is $56,000. The best score that Joey can post is $64,000. So long
as Joey bets NO LESS than $16,401 AND is correct, he has this one in the
bag. Otherwise, he has to bet $5601 and hope that Danielle went for it
and missed.

Correct response: what is France?
Andrew's response: what is congrats to the winner, West is Best? WRONG. Wager: $10,400. Total: $0.
Danielle's response: what is France? RIGHT. Wager: $3000. Total:
$16,000.
Joey's response: what is France? :) RIGHT. Wager:
$6800. Total: $31,200
If you look at the numbers,
you'll see that this wasn't a case of Joey beating Danielle, as it was a
case of Danielle beating herself, by $400.
