Finals: Beachum/Chung/Zsenak - Part 1

While college seniors all across the country are graduating, nine of last week's players are graduating to the next level, the semi-finals. For three of them, the road to $100,000 and a slot in the next Tournament of Champions continues. For the other six, the dream ends here at the Kohl Center in Madison.

This Spring Classic is another standard two-week affair, advancing the winners of last week's games as well as four wild-cards, high scorers among non-winners. All of this week's players will be guaranteed $10,000 for their participation. And in the end, only the winner will advance, hence the phrase, "Win or go home."

The first runner-up receives $50,000 at least, while the second runner-up wins at least $25,000. As always, any and all winnings accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.

And then... there were three.

Daily Double: $600 They Hail from Wisconsin. Andrew finds it early and bets $1000 on this: born in Pepin, she headed out on "The Prairie" as a young girl & wrote about it in a series of bestselling books. "Who is Laura Ingalls Wilder?" Correct for $1400.

At the end of the Jeopardy! round...

Daily Double #1: $1200 It's an Olympic Year. Andrew leads with $10,400, but Danielle's coming up behind with $7800. Joey has $3600. Andrew bets $2000 on this: this onetime ally of the host nation won the most medals at the 2006 Turin Games. "What is Germany?" Correct for $12,400.

Daily Double #2: $800 Homecoming. Joey is far behind with $2000 to Andrew's $12,000 and Danielle's $7800. "Might as well let it ride." The clue: when he returned to Venice in 1295, he was called "il Milione", the "man with a million stories." Joey, in his best Italian voice: "Who is Marco Polo?" Si, si, for $4000.

At the end of the Double Jeopardy! Round...

Joey's response: who is Scott? RIGHT. Wager: $7600. Total: $15,200.
Danielle's response: who is Scott? RIGHT. Wager: $15,000. Total: $30,000.
Andrew's response: what is Scott Peary? WRONG. Wager: $6002. Total: $11,998

Joey says he can be gutsy. Danielle says "I can be gutsy, too." Andrew says... "D'oh!"  As a result, Andrew has the most work to do tomorrow. Danielle looks like she could just sleep off tomorrow's game and win it all, but stranger things have happened.
