Preliminaries: Grant/Swain/Zsenak
May 6
College. The best time of
your life.
College Jeopardy! The best
two weeks of your life.
Fifteen of the nation's best
and brightest have descended upon the campus of the University of
Wisconsin at Madison to prove who's the best of the best. At stake,
$100,000, the title of 2008 College Champion, bragging rights, and the
right to compete amongst the best of the best in the next Tournament of
Champions. Rivalries will be hard fought, upsets are certain, and any
one move can spell either certain glory or certain failure.
This Spring Classic is
another standard two-week affair, advancing the winners of this week's
games as well as four wild-cards, high scorers among non-winners. All of
this week's players will receive $5000, while the semifinalists will be
guaranteed $10,000 for their participation.
The first runner-up receives
$50,000 at least, while the second runner-up wins at least $25,000. As
always, any and all winnings accrued depends on how far up the ladder a
player goes.
Gabrielle McMahan is the
only person assured of a spot next week. Who'll join her? Let's find
out...

THE "DEL"S |
Daily Double: $800 Early
America. Danielle skipped this clue while hunting
and pecking, but she found it with $2200 to Vera's
$2800 and James' $400. She wagers the level on this:
on March 3, 1513 this Spaniard left Puerto Rico,
reaching the American mainland 30 days later. "Who
is Ponce de Leon?" Correct for $3000 and the lead at
the TV time out.

Daily Double #1: $1600 Fictional
Characters. Vera's in second with $8400 to Danielle's $12,600 and James' $3800.
She risks $4000 on this: in "The Chronicles of Narnia", this nephew of the evil
King Miraz is the rightful heir to the throne. "Who is Prince Caspian?" Correct
for $12,400.
Daily Double #2: $1600 You Can't
Handle the Tooth. Vera is in the middle still with $14,800 to Danielle's $19,000
and James' $5800. She bets to tie on this: while vying for the Golden Fleece,
this hero had to deal with some dragon's teeth that sprouted into warriors. "Who
is Jason?" Correct for the tie with $19,000!

Hanging Gardens of Babylon?
James's response: what are the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? RIGHT. Wager: $5799. Total: $11,599.
Vera's response: what is the Parthenon? WRONG. Wager: $8299. Total:
$11,101.
Gabrielle's response: what are the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? RIGHT.
Wager doesn't matter.
SEMI-FINALIST:
Danielle Zsenak
The little lady with the big
brain, the even bigger knowledge base (done mostly without the help of a
Daily Double) has emerged as a main contender for the title. Don't count
Vera out though. She knows what to wager and how to wager it. We may see
her yet.
Third quarterfinal tomorrow.
