World Tour: South Africa
May 14

It's no secret that Deal or No Deal is not a new idea in the world. When it premiered in 2005 in the US, it was the number one game show worldwide in places like the Netherlands, Australia, and India. Tonight. Howie continues his round-the-world jaunt as we arrive in South Africa to play with Ed Jordan, the host of their version. Bald guy... black suit.

Let's be straight on some things. This is the American game with American players playing for American money... with foreign models. Although the most widely-spoken language in this country is Zulu, this show is done in English.

Tonight, someone, perhaps ALLISON DOHENY, will walk out with 7.5 million rand... or $1 million. Allison's dream of coming here is coming true. She's from Hermosa Beach, CA, and she's playing to pay for her wedding.

Is her wedding in case #8? Let's find out. Precious, please...

Allison's case

If you turn 8, it's infinity. But we can't talk forever. Open six, please.

3 - $1,000,000... off the bat... Not good...
24 - $25
15 - $500
12 - $25,000
21 - $10
19 - $300

No one likes the banker... his first offer...

$73,000

BANK OFFER
$73,000

$ 0.01 $ 1,000
$ 1 $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000
$ 10 $ 25,000
$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 75 $ 100,000
$ 100 $ 200,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 300 $ 400,000
$ 400 $ 500,000
$ 500 $ 750,000
$ 750 $ 1,000,000

That's a huge first offer. The highest amount won on this stage is HALF that. Allison hasn't come this far to give up on round 1.. NO DEAL.

Before we play on, let's meet the help, Alex (little sister), Renee (best friend), and Tyler (fiancee). They want five cases. Here we go...

11 - $500,000
2 - $750,000
20 - $75
16 - $400
18 - $50,000

Rough round... the banker chimes in with...

BANK OFFER
$40,000

$ 0.01 $ 1,000
$ 1 $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000
$ 10 $ 25,000
$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 75 $ 100,000
$ 100 $ 200,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 300 $ 400,000
$ 400 $ 500,000
$ 500 $ 750,000
$ 750 $ 1,000,000

... and this is the banker being nice. Here's Allison being nice. NO DEAL, no way.

Before the next round, we get dancing Zulus and the realization that all of the models here have been in FHM. Qualithy nice...

9 - $75,000
26 - $400,000
7 - $100
1 - $750!

Tight block means a tight offer...

BANK OFFER
$38,000

$ 0.01 $ 1,000
$ 1 $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000
$ 10 $ 25,000
$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 75 $ 100,000
$ 100 $ 200,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 300 $ 400,000
$ 400 $ 500,000
$ 500 $ 750,000
$ 750 $ 1,000,000

... a bit too tight. Help says she's not leaving without $300,000. NO DEAL.

23 - $10,000
14 - $200,000
10 - $300,000

This is just a bad day to be Allison now. The next offer...

BANK OFFER
$9,000

$ 0.01 $ 1,000
$ 1 $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 100,000
$ 50
$ 200

Only one amount bigger than that, and if she hits that next, it's game over. The crowd says "NO DEAL"... that's what Allison's going with.

More dancing!

13 - $1000
25 - $200

That's a better round, meaning that the banker's going to do better... But first, Allison, who says that she's daring, gets a challenge from the Banker... The offer... mopani worms. If you eat five of them, he'll add $10,000 to her final prize total. I've been told they taste like chicken. She downs them, no problem. And some of the models join in on it. And Tyler. So she's guaranteed $10,000. Isn't that nice of the banker?

The money offer this round, though...

BANK OFFER
$14,000

$ 0.01 $ 1,000
$ 1 $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 100,000
$ 50
$ 200

So that brings her total deal to $24,000. And maybe a stomachache. Does she push it or does she take the money and run? NO DEAL.

6 - Michelle did eat a worm with her... $5000!

That'll bump the offer to...

BANK OFFER
$17,000

$ 0.01 $ 1,000
$ 1 $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 100,000
$ 50
$ 200

That brings the total deal to $27,000. There's a 20% chance that she's sitting on six figures. NO DEAL.

17 - $1

Banker money skyrockets to...

BANK OFFER
$22,000

$ 0.01 $ 1,000
$ 1 $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 100,000
$ 50
$ 200

... bringing the total deal to $32,000... BUT there's more! Martha Stewart wants to meet up with Allison and get her weddings expert to help plan out the wedding of her dreams. That brings the total of her offer to... $35,200. OR she can open another case. Mom says that Allie can't put a price on this...

Everyone's saying Deal all of a sudden... Good call. DEAL for $35,200!

But was it a good decision? #4 Kim had $50. Next money offer.. $37,000. #22 had.. $100,000! In Allison's case...

Allison's Deal:

Next up to play with Howie and Ed is ROSALYN SIMS. We rewind how Anya surprised Rosalyn at the airport... and how Rosalyn hates surprises. She's been married to the man of her dreams for 25 years. Her daughter goes to college in Virginia.

Let's play the game... Rosalyn plays with #11.

10 - $10
25 - $1,000,000
15 - $1000
3 - $25,000

Aside from the million, that was a good round. Small cases means big bank offer...

$ 1 $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000

$ 400 $ 500,000

... American. Or she can open five cases. NO DEAL!

Sitting with Ed today are Wally (husband), Latoya (daughter), and Augustine (mother). The only person not here... her si-i-i-i-ster. She's watching, though.

Pay attention. This is relevant.

17 - $75
21 - $750,000
14 - $200,000
5 - $100
18 - $300,000

That was a harsh round. Banker's going to be harsh, even though $500,000 is still in play. First, though, the banker brings out a surprise... a jack-in-the-box...

BANK OFFER
$38,000

$ 0.01 $ 1,000
$ 1 $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000

$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 75 $ 100,000
$ 100 $ 200,000
$ 200 $ 300,000

$ 400 $ 500,000
$ 500 $ 750,000
$ 750 $ 1,000,000

That's $3.80 per mile traveled. That's not enough for her. NO DEAL.

22 - $5000
20 - $500

Before the other two, Howie got a surprise for Rosalyn... a S-i-i-i-ister in the box. Now that everyone's here, the party can continue.

20 - $1
8 - BANOODLES!

Nice round. Nice offer coming... Nice drumbeats, guys.

BANK OFFER
$70,000

$ 0.01 $ 1,000
$ 1 $ 5,000

$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 75 $ 100,000
$ 100 $ 200,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 300 $ 400,000
$ 400 $ 500,000
$ 500 $ 750,000
$ 750 $ 1,000,000

Rosalyn has always been the giver, but $70,000 is not enough for her to receive. NO DEAL.

Three cases.

24 - $200
16 - $400,000
4 - $25

Okay, which way are we going now? Banker chimes in with...

$61,000

BANK OFFER
$61,000

  $ 10,000
  $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 400 $ 100,000
$ 750 $ 500,000

She's a tough wife, being a military wife... She can weather more than this. Three of the eight remaining are bigger than the offer. She goes with the family and says NO DEAL.

9 - $75,000
2 - $750

Banker still thinks she's crazy...

BANK OFFER
$87,000

  $ 10,000
  $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 400 $ 100,000
$ 750 $ 500,000

There's a 67% chance that she's sitting on less than the offer. That's two out of three. That's a safety net.

NO DEAL!

6 - $50,000

She's living on the edge, but does she keep pushing? The banker offers...six figures..

Mom says deal. So does Rosalyn. DEAL for $105,000, a new South African record (R750,000).

But was it the right decision? #13 had $400. Bank would've offered $168,000. #23, $100,000. New offer... $187,000. #19 had... the $500,000. In Rosalyn's case...

$50

Rosalyn's Deal

Special thanks to Ed, to Hector, to Kris, to Noel, to Linda, to Alari, to Andrew, and to all the hosts of Deal or No Deal all around the world... We're back in America next time.
