Philippines It's no secret that Deal or No Deal is not a new idea in the world. When it premiered in 2005 in the US, it was the number one game show worldwide in places like the Netherlands, Australia, and India. Tonight begins a special strand of shows celebrating that fact as Howie goes global. First stop: the Philippines. Let's be straight on some things. This is the American game with American players playing for American money... with foreign models. Joining us tonight, 26 models that love to dance, and their host, Kris Aquino. Time to begin the Thrilla in Manila... ... and we start with MIKE LEVY. He loves the weather and the food here, especially sisig. He's originally from Baltimore, where he was a football player. He just had his first child, and tonight he's halfway around the world playing for her. Mike's case choice... 4 for his daughter.
Let's get it started with... 3 - $200 Now we go to a more ominous banker.. he's pacing... and he's calling. "The first American opponent looks very sweaty."
"The fans have spoken." NO DEAL! (Trivia: the interstitial music is actually the original Dutch theme music) Five cases... 11 - $1000 It's a banker's board, and here's the banker's offer...
Here to help is mom, Andrew (friend), and Martina (fiancée). It would be a great vacation to walk out a winner, but there are only three big amounts left. The crowd says no deal... Four cases... 13 - $5000 Everyone claps their hands... Apparently every time there's a small amount, they party. 6 - Here comes another party... $1 Offer went way up. This is a new record in the Philippines...
The record in the Philippines is $50,000 US about. The crowd all say no deal. Mike complies.. 12 - BANOODLES! We're expecting a big amount from the banker... Six figures big. But first, the banker wants to protect Mike's head in a traditional Filipino way. "The game's gonna get rougher, so he wanted you to wear a vakul." Something women traditionally wear.
That is Kayla's education for college. That's a house. That's a dream wedding. But is it enough to go home? Nope. NO DEAL. 10 - $100,000 Banker's calling...
There's a one-in-three chance at six figures, OR there's a guarantee. He's looking to maybe quadruple that money IF he plays on. He calls the Philippine people intelligent... and says NO DEAL! 8 - A lucky case in the Philippines... $50! Big risk pays off. Here comes the banker...
Help is conflicted, eventually ending up with NO DEAL. Fiancee wants to go one more round. "Isa pa. NO DEAL!" 20 - $400! Party join us! Getting ready for a bigger offer here with a 50/50 shot at at least half a million. Banker doesn't really like the Americans being here...
Fiancee wants to say deal. Mom says he's got the big money in his case. Now the crowd's conflicted... DEAL for $274,000!
Crikey. Worst case scenario right there. Let's put that game out of our mind and begin again with all 26 models in place. Here comes our next player... PATRICK HOOK. He's from Roberts, WI, where he's been married for a year and a half. He's a teacher who wants some money for his student loans and his family. Patrick gets things underway with case #11...
Does #11 have the money? Let's find out. Six cases. 9 - $5000 The good news: the big seven has got the banker up on his feet...
That's triple his salary, but it's also... NO DEAL! 14 - $10,000 Big hit, but to get the million, you have to knock out something. Six of the big seven are still in play.
Brandi (wife), Kate (sister), and Corey (friends) are in the Philippines with him. They all say no deal. Pat agrees. NO DEAL! 4 - $1000 "It's okay. $1 million is still alive." True that, Kris. Does he have guts? Here's a challenge... What we have here are three delicacies that will add to the offer. He has to eat it. Patrick goes with the $10,000. He missed out on adidas (chicken feet) and fish heads. He's going to eat balut (duck embryo) for $10,000. Does he literally have the guts to stomach this challenge? YES! So we'll add $10,000 to this offer...
That's an offer of $139,000. Brandi did not have vaccinations in her arm just to walk away now. NO DEAL. 3 - $1 There's a 50/50 shot at six figures.
That is actually right down the middle in terms of the offer, as the crowd goes no deal. It's not time yet. NO DEAL! 21 - $500,000 Offer goes down...
Again, dead center. He has one case to open next round, and he's got a safety net. Pat wants to show him more guts. NO DEAL! 13 - $300,000 The million is still in play. Let's see what the banker has in store.
"If I can eat balut, I can eat you too, Banker. NO DEAL!" 18 - KaBLOOEY. $1 million. Still have a one-in-four chance at $200,000, but now the banker is dancing. The next offer...
Sister says it's time to go home and take the deal... but he should play on. Everyone agrees. NO DEAL! 1 - $50 Hey, when in Rome... do as the Romans do. Pat's wife is dancing. New offer...
The original offer. Crowd is split. DEAL for $71,000! Was it the right decision? #26 had $25. Bank would've offered... $110,000. In Pat's case...
