Round of 4
August 15
Last week, it was the toughest Mystery
Box, and Ben Starr won it and an advantage in recreating Gordon Ramsay's
Loin of Venison. The round was his to lose... and he lost it. Now the
final four are left with a true American challenge... with an
international flair.
TEAM CHALLENGE #7: A MasterChef Masterclass
Suzy won the last challenge, so she gets
to pick her partner...
BLUE TEAM: Adrien, Jennifer
RED TEAM: Suzy, Christian
Today's challenge: in 90 minutes, work
together to create six servings of a stunning dish to be judged not only
by the judges of "MasterChef America", but also by three judges from
global editions of the show.
Reds are thinking about Thanksgiving with
duck and duck sauce. Christian is not comfortable with the idea, as his
strength is fish. Duck is a very noble ingredient, so ambition is
respected. But is it a wise choice? Christian decides to play the good
soldier, even as his team is noticeably sinking (his plan: throw Suzy
under the bus).
Blues are using lobster and prawns with
red pepper coulis and blood orange. But will it be too simple for our
global panel? Adrien and Jennifer on the other hand... are in perfect
harmony with each other.
Ten minutes to go, and Suzy is rushing to
help Christian's errors out... and judges are on their way. Suzy is
scrambling when she should've been planning.
Three... two.... one..... NOW ENTERING
THE STUDIO ARE TODAY'S JUDGES...
- Chef Kunal Kapoor of "MasterChef India"
- Food writer Michal Ansky of "MasterChef Israel"
- Food critic Sebastien Demorand of "MasterChef France"
The dishes...
- Suzy Singh/Christian Collins: A Play on
Thanksgiving - Duck with Sweet Potato Mash & Raspberry Coulis.
Individual components are find, but the total package is a little
"disrespectful" to Joe. Christian wishes it was a little more complex.
And he has no problem saying how embarrassed he is about the dish. No
one tastes harmony.
- Adrien Nieto/Jennifer Behm: Prawns with
Lobster, Corn & Avocado. Sebastien wanted more of the lobster instead of
having it as just an afterthought in the mash. And speaking of mash,
Michal thought it was a little mushy. And the prawn was not cleaned
properly. The vision is there, but the execution fell short.
The winners of this challenge will
compete tomorrow in the series 2 grand final.
And the decision is unanimous. The winner
... and assured of two spots in the Final.... ADRIEN & JENNIFER! You are
cooking for a title!
Commiserations, Suzy & Christian, but you
will face each other in...
PRESSURE TEST #7: Lemon Meringue Pie
Ninety minutes to make the best crust,
the best curd, and the best meringue. Be the best... or have pie in your
face.
- Suzy Singh: Doesn't look pretty. More
lemon than meringue. Pastry is undercooked. Curd is perfect.
- Christian Collins: Uneven crust, separated meringue, good structure,
rich curd.
Christian's pie looks better than it
tastes. Suzy's pie tastes better than it looks.
Who's cooking for a title and who's going
home?
Leaving the MasterKitchen tonight....
