Round of 13
July 5
Last time, the cooks headed to the beach
to feed a biker rally. And the red team never "sausage" a disaster,
leading to an angry Christine and a rather disaffected Max facing off
against each other in a Pressure Test to cook beef medallions. Max was
given the heave ho, but did Esther awaken a new threat to the
MasterKitchen?
Time for Round 3...
MYSTERY BOX #3
In the Mystery Box today... A LIVE
INGREDIENT! Well, it was living before. CAREFULLY lift your boxes... to
find nothing but vegetables. The challenge today: create a vegetarian
dish. No sides, no salads, a savory dish using only the vegetables found
in the Mystery Box: purple fingerling potatoes, green tomatoes,
candy-striped beets, Japanese eggplant, smoked paprika, Moroccan spice,
and curry powder.
Already, the advantage to Suzy.
One hour... one dish. Selection of the
top three will be based on presentation.
The WORST dish of the lot... Christian
Collins' stuffed tomatoes. No cohesion, no think-through, and overall...
it was strange. And Christian has no qualms about arguing with the
judges about it. Everyone thinks that Christian has zero filter.
Back to business. The top three...
- Jennifer Behm: Vegetable Terrine with
Eggplant Wrap & Tomato Sauce
- Adrien Nieto: Green Gazpacho with Spanish Rice & Fried Egg (this is
his second final table)
- Alejandra Schraeder: Vegetable Korma with Rice & Asian Pear (Again,
second final table)
The last Mystery Box was won by Adrien.
Will he repeat as winner this round? The winner of this Mystery Box...
JENNFER! Her advantage... Jennifer will control the main
ingredient/style of food in...
ELIMINATION TEST #3: The Past Becomes the
Present
The theme for this Elimination Test is
not a what, but a who... Jennifer gets to meet America's FIRST
MasterChef... WHITNEY MILLER! (C-NOTE: I'M NOT WORTHY! I'M NOT WORTHY!)
She will present and guest judge the challenge. The challenge: recreate
a dish from Whitney's cookbook: "Modern Hospitality: Simple Recipes with
Southern Charm" (now available wherever fine books are sold... money).
BUT she'll have to do with without a recipe. The good news: Jennifer
gets to choose which of the three dishes will be the centerpiece of the
challenge.
- Cranberry Chipotle Barbecue Chicken
with Potato Salad & Grilled Asparagus.
- Shrimp & Grits with Andouille Sausage and a Roasted Red Pepper Sauce &
Herb Salal
- Crispy Catfish with Purple Slaw & Sweet Potato Fries
Gordon Ramsay loves using adjectives.
The dish... CRISPY CATFISH.
One hour to recreate the dish down to the
last grain of salt WITHOUT A RECIPE.
The second advantage: Jennifer will be
given EVERY ingredient down to the last fluidounce of oil.
The ingredients in the slaw are... purple
cabbage, carrots, apple, jalapeno, pecans, and brussels sprouts. That's
the only freebie we're going to give you. You're going to have to search
the interwebs for the complete recipe.
Alejandra misses a couple of ingredients
in the slaw. Will that cost her? Judging on the judgment handed her,
perhaps yes.
Jennifer is up to taste first. She had
all of the ingredients and literally the game in her hands. Jennifer
nailed it. But what about the other 13?
- Alejandra Schraeder: Used garlic in the
tartar sauce. RAW garlic.
- Derrick Prince: coating did nothing for the fish, slaw is horrible.
- Adrien Nieto: the plating is so out of touch that Joe had to replate
it properly.
- Jennie Kelley: SALTY!
The objective WAS TO REPRODUCE EXACTLY
the dish! Not to reinterpret it. Just ask...
- Ben Starr: ... to which Joe says...
"WHY DON'T YOU COOK LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME!"
The two dishes that stood out... belong
to CHRISTIAN and BEN. They'll be captains on the next challenge. Battle
of the Daft Hats next time...
Your bottom three... Adrien, Jennie, and
Alejandra. At LEAST one of them is going home.
... first of which is JENNIE.
As for the other two... They are both
SAFE. But by so much.
Twelve remaining to take on the Team
Challenge NEXT TIME.
