Finals:
Goucher/UNT/Vandy - Part 2
February 14
Last week, fifteen of the best and
brightest of the hallowed halls and dorm rooms of academia descended
upon the hallowed halls and studios of Sony Pictures to pitch
intellectual combat, three at a time. Now the cream of the cram has
risen to the top, as Goucher College's Sarah Bart, Vanderbilt's Zack
Terrill, and North Texas's Monica Thieu try to make their tuition money
tonight and Friday. At stake: the Jeopardy! Globe, $100,000, a spot in
the quarter-million dollar Tournament of Champions... and the title of
Jeopardy! College Champion.
Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while third will get $25,000 in a
standard two-week event. Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000.
As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder
a player goes.
We're 30 minutes away from a big money
moment.

$4000. She bets $1000 on this: "Play of the Waves" is a movement from this
Claude Debussy work. "What is 'Jeux'... or 'Games'?" No, it was "La Mer", the
sea, dropping her to $1600.
Daily Double #2: $1600 Government &
Politics. Sarah has $5400 and second place to Zack's $7600. She bets $2000 on
this: chaired by Daniel Inouye, this Senate Committee writes the bills that
allocate funds to government agencies. Sarah... blanks. Appropriations takes the
money away, dropping her to $3400.

Sarah can be mathematically
eliminated, as even a doubled score would not be enough to catch a zero
wager from Monica or Zack. Zack's only hope for the title is to bet it
all and get it right. As for Monica, the magic number is $2401 to lock
the tournament away.
