Preliminaries: Goucher/Columbia/Vandy
February 3

Fifteen undergrads. Fifteen schools. In the end, there can only be but one. On the line in this fortnight of intellectual fortitude, $100,000... bragging rights as the 2012 College Champion... and a place in the 2012 Tournament of Champions.

Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while third will get $25,000 in a standard two-week event. Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.

Only nine of the fifteen that compete week one will be invited to return in week two, however, the five winners this week and four wild card top-scorers.

Weston Mangin and Connie Shi will return to battle next week. One of these three will join them.

Final Jeopardy! category: NATIONAL PARKS

A BIOSPHERE RESERVE, THIS SOUTHERN NATIONAL PARK IS THE LARGEST IN THE LOWER 48 COMPLETE WITHIN ONE STATE

Correct response: what is Everglades National Park?

Zack's response: what is Everglades National Park? CORRECT. Wager: $9600. Total: $19,200.
Sarah's response: what are the Everglades? CORRECT. Wager: $7000. Total: $18,600.
Tyler's response: what is Yosemite? WRONG. Wager: $500. Total: $20,100.

Semifinalist: Tyler Benedict

A strong game by Tyler, who was smart to only wager a little, knowing that even if he lost, a score of $20,000 or more is a sure-fire in for next week. Zack and Sarah, meanwhile, have positioned themselves at the top of the Wild Card leaderboard, knocking the two $1 challengers from the 2/1 show off.

Next week, we continue to build your final nine.
