Semifinals: Stanford/Vandy/UMich
February 10
Last week, fifteen of the best and
brightest of the hallowed halls and dorm rooms of academia descended
upon the hallowed halls and studios of Sony Pictures to pitch
intellectual combat, three at a time. Now the cream of the cram has
risen to the top, but there is still one more level to go. The winners
of this game and the two to follow will reach that level and compete for
$100,000, a spot in the quarter-million dollar Tournament of
Champions... and the title of Jeopardy! College Champion.
Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while third will get $25,000 in a
standard two-week event. Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000.
As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder
a player goes.
These nine are going to be friends forever... but for the next week,
where the familiar mantra is "Win... or go home", it's all business.
Winner of this match gets Sarah Bart &
Monica Thieu...

Daily Double #1: $1600 Volcanoes.
Matt has $5800, $2200 behind Connie's lead. He bets that on this: in 1944 Allied
Forces in Italy had to evacuate an airfield when ash from this volcano damaged
planes. "What is Vesuvius?" Correct for $8000 and the tie!
Daily Double #2: $1600 Eponyms.
Matt's hitting his stride with $18,000 to Zack's $10,200. Matt bets $6000 on
this: both a horse race & a man's hat are named for Edward Stanley, the 12th
Earl of this. "What is Derby?" That... would've gotten him an almost
insurmountable lead, but now his lead is only $1800 on "Belmont".

Now the keys from our
friends at J-Archive.com...
- Connie wins if... she bets
everything and is correct, but ONLY if the other two miss, since they
will most likely bet against each other.
- Zack wins if... he bets no more than $9000 and is correct, but ONLY if
Matt misses, since he will be betting to cover most likely.
- Matt wins if... he bets $10,401 and is correct.
