Three Chefs Compete
April 30
Last time, the chefs tasted Chef Ramsay's
Italian Fish Stew... and were then challenged to make it based on taste
alone. Danny succeeded and ended up on a biplane above the Pacific
Ocean. Service was at 90 percent competion when the wheels started to
come off on Ben and Andrea's stations. And in the end, Ben has made too
many mistakes to merit going forward. Now three chefs remain...
... and they're about to get a shock of a
lifetime.
Paula's mother & sister, Andrea's mother
& cousin, and Danny's father & girlfriend arrive. After all of the loved
ones have come together for a little piece of home, the chefs regroup
and refuel for the next day's challenge...
.. which begins right now. They'll be
serving lunch to 100 very distinguished customers. They'll have to
select a dish to impress them all. And they have to cook 100 servings of
it in 90 minutes.
Off you go!
Ramsay is looking for small tasting
portions of dishes that will impress all 100 of their mystery patrons.
Danny can keep cool under the pressure, while Andrea tends to get
flustered. She's running behind the other two. She calls this challenge
the hardest yet.
After 90 minutes time, the customers
arrive... the best chefs from across Los Angeles. We have Zagat-rated...
Michelin-rated... James Beard Award-winning... Needless to say...
They're for real. The guests will sample each of the three dishes and
then decide on their favorite and least favorite.
Andrea: Chicken Roulade of Prosciutto
Paula: Olive-Oil Poached Sturgeon
Danny: Lightly-Blackened Halibut with Salsa and Basmati Rice
The votes are in... and over 76% thought
one dish was the worst. That dish belonged to ... Danny.
The winner, with over 76% of the vote...
Paula! Her reward will be that she's given the Hollywood pampered
treatment. She wants to look her best for what happens next. The losers
will clean every table, then setting the dining room ahead of tomorrow's
service. It's also laundry day, and you'll be cleaning, ironing,
starching, and folding all the linens.
Danny calls this service a kick in the
balls. Hopefully, it won't break him come dinner service. He's taking
this loss hard.
Paula heads off to her Hollywood makeover
with JP in tow. Both say that it's hard to meet someone outside of this
business and then... in comes the magic of Fox editing to show... well,
use your imagination.
Back in Hell's Kitchen, Danny is
steaming... and steamed. He doesn't iron. Andrea wants to kick him when
he's down. He's trying to pick himself up and move on. Paula returns to
show off her new look. She's totally psyched for tomorrow.
The second part of Paula's reward
involves a trip to Good Day LA for a cooking demo. Meanwhile, Danny and
Andrea get started on cleaning up for tonight's service. And the TV in
the dining room is switched on to Fox 11 to see their comrade on Good
Day LA. You can see that Ramsay's been doing this... a LONG time.
Paula.. this is her first time in front of a live camera.
TV star returns to Hell, as she uses her
time outside to her advantage.
But that's all in the past. Right now,
the final three are awaiting the biggest service of their lives. To get
their, they had to steamroll over 13 others.
Four minutes before opening, Ramsay
rallies the brigade of three. By the end of the night, it'll be a
brigade of two. Actually, it WON'T be a brigade of two, because in the
end, it'll be chef vs. chef. And tradition holds true, as each chef will
be given a turn at running the pass. Expect Ramsay, Gloria, Scott, and
JP to have a few tricks up their sleeve to see who really has what it
takes to front a restaurant.
"Jean Philippe... Open Hell's Kitchen."
Every table is booked in the place, and
the pressure is at an all-time high. First appetizers are going out and
they're spot on.
Ramsay takes first advantage of a break
and sends Paula to the pass. Paula starts off... nervously. Danny
thought it showed a little bit of weakness. Gloria has her first test:
subbing out squash puree for carrot puree. FAIL. Paula does spot a
botched watercress soup from Scott. She proves to be solid afterward.
Most of the appetizers have made it out
of the kitchen. But now it's Danny's turn at the hot plate. He calls
this second nature...
Danny starts with a brain fart... and an
order with five covers... for four dishes. FAIL. And then Danny
cracks... literally. Normally confident Danny is starting to crumble at
the pass. Gloria has also sabotaged a potato... FAIL. He hits his stride
toward the end, though.
Ninety minutes, and Danny has rallied to
make sure his customers have his dishes. Next up, Andrea.
Andrea's all mouth. Seriously. She's
keeping everything moving, but she's about to be tested with the wrong
fish. FAIL. That's halibut, not John Dory. Andrea's determined not to
let that happen again. And she starts riding sous-chef Scott down
serious. After excuse after excuse, she knows why Ramsay's a lunatic,
and Scott threatens to put her through a wall. Rest of the pass runs as
smooth as Andrea does.
Ramsay returns to his rightful place, and
the chefs rally to finish up strong. Best service ever. It was hard as
hell, but it's done. The rock stars switch off their stations.
The good news, the chefs came together
and proved why they belonged in the final three. The BAD news...
someone's still gotta go home.
The chefs return to the dorms to
determine who should not be in the final of Hell's Kitchen. Andrea
thinks that Danny should go home. She thought he'd be spot on at the
pass. Danny says that that was all she has. Danny says that she was
nitpicking a lot tonight, as she was applying her standard. So it's all
on Paula.
At elimination, Andrea nominates Danny
(he was not loud, and was very nervous). Danny says Andrea was not as
strong as he was. Paula... nominates Andrea (a lot of strength, but has
struggled through services).
Paula earns her spot in the Final Two.
Andrea says that she knows she can finish
what she started.
Danny says that this is all he WANTS to
do.
Joining Paula in the final... is...
Danny. ANDREA has been eliminated. But on the back of this, Ramsay calls
her a hell of a fighter and an asset to any kitchen.
And then there were two. Danny Veltri and
Paula Dasilva have outlasted their competitors and now await their final
challenge, which will start... NEXT TIME!
