Episode 2.8
- Couples Wipeout They say a joy that's shared is double the joy, and on Wipeout, that's no exception as couples take on the famous course for $50,000. Twelve of them enter, but only one will rise above the others. Which duo will do it right? Let's find out! We start as always with the Wipeout Qualifier... Which will have to be run TOGETHER.
We start at the top with the Trapeze Swings, then our favorite couple... Big Balls AND Motivator... then it's the Log Roll, this time with a maze attached, then finally, the Fender Benders. Fastest six times will advance to stage 2. First couple are Jose & Darlene Gonzalez, who've been together 30 years. Darlene's a bit better than Jose at the trapezes, while Jose and Darlene... equally bad at the Big Balls. Jose... sends Darlene to the Log Roll Maze first. Then Jose takes a dive. They finish the course in 7:10. Eddie & Summer Dees are next, and Summer takes a fall. Seems like the summer of love as they need each other to survive. Such is the case is Travis Petties & Kasey Burton. Travis loves her cooking, and Kasey... just gets cooked. They clock in at 5:13. Next is Shane & Sally Harris. Shane does a pose called "The Moose". The Moose clears the Big Balls, but Sally doesn't. Yet they make excellent time despite Sally wiping out. They clock in at 3:23, the fastest so far. Michael Garcia & Susan Molina are next, and if they win, Susan wants Michael's ex-wife gone. Well, his tattoo of his ex-wife anyway. Michael drops into the water to start, while trying to catch up with him... Second half of the round starts with ... Michael & Susan struggling to complete the course. They probably won't advance, but will pony-tailed Brian & Lori Beth Schwab advance? They're convinced that they can crush everyone. Brian crushes the trapeze, but Lori Beth gets a mudbath. Team Muscle moves onto the Big Balls, and both of them take a dive. Ben & Heather Mortensen are next, and Ben is distracted by the trouble he's going to be in when he gets home. Heather's turn on the Balls... not any better. "I want a divorce." Nice. Love of the game, purity of the sport... Draw of money. Aron Ali & Ashanna Wall are Team Money with one rule... Get money. Instead, they get muddy. Paul Weinrich & Rachel Grim are the shortest of the crew... and it shows. Meanwhile, Matt Lettini & Tonya Gagnon cheer... err, crow... or something... Team Ca-Caw try to fly like an eagle, but end up crashing like a vulture. Final couple are Tim & Jenni Johnson. They call each other the Tortoise and the Hair (Tim's tattoo of Jenni's name is covered by hair). Tim almost makes it past the Big Balls... Jenni... not even close. But together, they clock in at a respectable 4:30, thanks to a great showing in the Fender Benders. ADVANCING TO ROUND 2 Now it's all about the King of the Mountain...
It's played as normal, though only the top three couples will advance. Meaning that an advance will not count until BOTH players are on the mountain. So theoretically... we could have seven people on the mountain AT ONCE. Tim is first... and he has an unlucky rabbit's foot. Shane is next and gets onto the mountain. Tim is also on the mountain. But remember, their significant others have to join them to clock in. Aron and Brian are next. Kasey takes a hit, while Sally is trying to grab on and... can't. First couple to move on.. Tim & Jenni. Two couples remaining... and here comes Shane & Sally. One more pair on the mountain... Money and Muscle fighting it out... but now here comes Paul. But it's all for naught, because Lori Beth is up... ADVANCING TO ROUND 3 Next is round 3, and we have the Dizzy Dummy... 2.0
Once the players are all dizzied up, they go to the Spinner, where they'll have to go through a keyhole. Then comes the Sweeper Buoy Run. First person to get past that will not have to spin again, but they will not get a trip to the Wipeout Zone unless their significant other joins them. The remaining five will then go on to the Rope Swing. Repeat until we have two couples... First heat starts, and the Moose are leading the herd, followed by the Tortoise and the Hair. Tim Johnson decides to RIDE the sweeper and gets to the end. So he wins the first round. Next heat... and Mr. Moose is leading the pack. First to get to the ropes. First to wipeout against the wall. First to conquer the wall is... Brian Schwab. Heat 3... and Tim and Brian are waiting for their wives. The Moose are up and over, but who'll get to the end of the Sweeper? It's... Shane Harris! Now it's all about the ladies... First out is Mrs. Moose, followed by Mrs. Muscle. Both make the Rope Swing count... for nothing. But one more jump and... the Muscles Brian & Lori Beth are going on to the Wipeout Zone! Final Heat. Will it be the Tortoise and the Hair or the Moose? It's going to be... the Moose! Shane & Sally. ADVANCING TO THE WIPEOUT ZONE Now one of these fabulous unions will share the wealth... and the pain... in the Wipeout Zone!
First up, control your Aqua Launch into the Wipeout Zone. Then control yourself on the Raging Rapids. Then control your footing against the Crazy Sweeper, and finally, the Turntables, controlled by foam this time round. Now, BOTH members of each couple will run the Wipeout Zone separately to come up with a cumulative time. Fastest total time wins $50,000. First up is Mr. & Mrs. Moose, Shane & Sally Harris. Shane will be going first, using an inflatable sled to go into the Zone. But he's right there at the Raging Rapids... and he beats the tidal wave of mud! But he gets swept away by the Crazy Sweeper. Second time lucky? YES! He's setting a blistering pace, but remember, Sally still has to run the course herself. Shane stops the clock at 3:28.96. Will Sally do the same? She goes with the head-first approach... and she's not moosin' around with a similar launch into the Zone. Unfortunately, she gets swept away by the mud. And knocked around by the Crazy Sweeper. TWICE. Lay down Sally. Seconds are turning into minutes, as she finally stops the clock after a wipeout or two from the Turntables at 12:38.29. That is the time to beat. Will Team Muscle Brian & Lori Beth Schwab join them? Brian starts it by overshooting the Raging Rapids. Just like Shane, he outguns the Raging Rapid, but doesn't do the same with the Sweeper arm. He won't beat Shane's time, but he will set a nice little pace at 6:48.36. A little more than double the time of Shane... ... but Lori Beth has about the same amount of time in order to make cash money. Like her husband, she overshoots the Raging Rapid. And the mud overshoots her. She's going to have to make up time somewhere. It won't be at the Sweeper, as she gets knocked for a loop. But she is left with no margin for error. She... nails the landing. She'll have about a minute and a half to nail the Turntables. She... falls. Thirty seconds to do it again... But she'll get one more try... and it's over. Shane & Sally Harris will take home $50,000! Next time, another group of Americans will try their hand at another group of crazy obstacles for crazy cash. Until then... Good Night... and Big Balls.
