THE STORY SO FAR! Last week,
10 singers gave it their all... but for Austin Jenckes
and Kat Robichaud, it was not enough. Now eight remain,
including the last one standing on Team CeeLo.

We begin with a "Feel
Good" joint from Robin Thicke.
First up, JAMES WOLPERT
leads the night off with ... how many other sides does
this guy have? Well, we'll see another with his choice,
"Somebody to Love" by Queen. It's a big song. He needs a
big voice in order to pull it off.
WHAT THEY SAY: Adam
thought that it was "unbelievably impressive". Blake
thought it was incredible, dynamic, and dramatic.
Christina thought it was a lot of fun. CeeLo thought
that it was a wonderful job with razor-sharp timing.
WHAT WE SAY: That needed
a little more animation. It was a good vocal, but this
song begged to be performed... and James did NOT perform
it.
TESSANNE CHIN continues
Team Adam's part of the night. She has the opportunity
to make a moment with "Underneath It All" by No Doubt.
It's a classic ska tune, right in Tessanne's cultural
wheelhouse. But will it translate to votes?
WHAT THEY SAY: Adam
thought the song was "tailor made for her." CeeLo
agrees. Christina finally heard something she was
looking for.
WHAT WE SAY: Work it,
girl. She's working the crowd. She's working the song.
She's working the audience at home. She's working
everything. It's called playing the game, and she's
doing it.
CeeLo's last great hope
for victory lies in CAROLINE PENNELL. She was in the
bottom three last week, and she's trying a lot to not
let it get her down. She's going out in left field with
"Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + The Machine. She's
never done something like this before.
WHAT THEY SAY: CeeLo...
wrote something for her. Adam notes that she's
challenging herself.
WHAT WE SAY: .... out in
left field alright. She's got the voice for it for sure,
and she is an indie artist. But this is a kind of song
that you do not touch. She seemed a little too unsure of
her footing on stage, but let's see how the votes go. I
predict a return trip to the bottom three.
We're going to take a
little break with Cole, Ray, Tessanne, and Will
performing "One Day" by Matisyahu.
Team Blake is up next
with COLE VOSBURY... at the set of The Tonight Show.
Hey! No dipping in the company well! Anyway, he's going
to go back to his country roots with "I Still Believe In
You" by Vince Gill. He REALLY wants to win this, doesn't
he?
WHAT THEY SAY: Blake says
that Cole left his heart on the stage. Christina thought
that his voice shone on that performance.
WHAT WE SAY: It was a
little bit weak on the vocals, and too shouty for a
tender ballad.
MATTHEW SCHULER just
turned 21. He would like to celebrate by being in the
top 6. Will his performance of Imagine Dragons' "It's
Time" put him there?
WHAT THEY SAY: Christina
says that he comes from a place of integrity.
WHAT WE SAY: He took
Christina's advice and made the song his own. A risk
that paid off in spades. He's now among the favorites to
win this competition. This song is basically page 1 out
of the Matthew Schuler playbook. He should have no
problem getting into the top 6 with that.
Next, Caroline, James,
Jacquie, and Matthew sing Ed Sheerin's gem, "Lego
House".
And from there, we go to
WILL CHAMPLIN, the final third of Team Adam that
continues to surprise... is about to surprise again, as
he takes on Etta James' "At Last".
WHAT THEY SAY: Adam
thought it had raw emotion. Christina "eats, sleeps, and
breathes that song"... "Very very great job. I loved
it."
WHAT WE SAY: Adam told
Will to take on the song with emotion more than
technicality. Mission accomplished. Of course, there had
to be some technicality, but that was pure emotion. Will
Champlin, you just had your moment.
Back at the Tonight
Show... must be time for RAY BOUDREAUX to take the
stage. He gets "Gimme Some Lovin'" by the Spencer Davis
Group. Pepperism coming.... Will America give him some
lovin'?
WHAT THEY SAY: Blake
thought he had "swag".
WHAT WE SAY: Expected a
little more in the way of stage presence... then the
bridge came on and boom, playing with the audience. But
nothing real daring about this performance. He could
find himself outsung if he's not careful.
And we are down to our
final performance of the night. Closing us out...
JACQUIE LEE, going back to the roots with "Who's Loving
You" by the Jackson 5ive. She's got soul, but how much
is she willing to bear for a vote? Remember, Jacquie has
to be coached into that mode.
WHAT THEY SAY: Christina
loves it. Adam thought it was full of conviction. Blake
thought it was full of energy. CeeLo agrees with Adam.
Actually, he says she "swallowed an old lady."
WHAT WE SAY: And once
again, the night is Jacquie's to lose.
SAFE: Tessanne, Matthew,
Will, Jacquie
TROUBLE: Cole, Ray
OUT: Caroline, James
Voting is on. Results are
tomorrow.
