THE STORY SO FAR! Last week,
Jonny Gray & Josh Logan could not connect to their
audience, and both were sent packing. Also in the bottom
three: Kat Robichaud, but the live Twitter save gave her
another round. Will her fans vote to save her tonight?

Before we get to the
matter at hand, we have the Top 10 singing "Say It, Just
Say It" by the Mowgli's.
First up, AUSTIN JENCKES,
the Washington rocker, is out to prove that he's in it
to win it. Will he have a breakout moment with "Your
Love" by The Outfield? It's a song from the 80s that you
always wanted to know the title to. Or at least I did.
THEY SAY: Blake thought
it was a breakout performance, saying that it "masters
the art of the slow build" and "letting it go when it's
time." Christina thought it was a "super great job",
especially with the ending. Adam says that his range is
"amazing". Cee Lo says that it was effortless.
WE SAY: It's an instantly
familiar song, and it's a recognizable sound. It matches
Austin to a tee. I only wish he did a little bit more
with it.
Hey, what's Usain Bolt
doing in the Sprint Skybox?
Next up, it's the
youngest JACQUIE LEE, and she's incorporating... yoga...
of all things. Well, breath control is important. So is
centering. Hopefully she'll remain centered with
"Clarity" by Zedd featuring Foxes.
THEY SAY: Christina
thought it was emotional. Cee Lo was "awesome' with a
small "A". Blake thought it was typical Jacquie after a
simple breakdown. Adam thought it was a great job.
WE SAY: She has
some impressive range. I wonder if she realizes that
this is not a terribly shouty song She needn't shout,
because if she does,... yep, she runs out of fuel.
Now we're going to Team
Adam's WILL CHAMPLIN, who gets strength from his family.
He will use that with "Love Me Again" by John Newman.
THEY SAY: Adam says that
he is a testament to sticking to it. It's in his
wheelhouse. Blake thought he was an "accurate" vocalist.
WE SAY: It's a good
choice, but Will spends more of his time shouting
sharply. He could be in danger if Kat-votes rebound to
save her.
CAROLINE PENNELL is up
fourth from Team Cee Lo. She says she marries talent
with poise. She thinks she connected with "Leavin' on a
Jet Plane" by John Denver. She wanted to sing this...
turns out that she grew up on this song.
THEY SAY: Cee Lo: "Nice."
She is consistent with the quality of character, but it
seemed like the song was going to overpower you. Adam
thought that Caroline was making a statement about her
experience on the show.
WE SAY: She's just so
darn cute. She wears that song like a big fuzzy pair of
slippers.
COLE VOSBURY, one half of
the beards on Blake's team is taking on a rock favorite,
"To Be With You" by Mr. Big. He says it's perfect for
his voice and that he grew up on it. Let's see how much
he grew up on it.
THEY SAY: Blake thought
he nailed it. Adam thought it was a smart move.
WE SAY: Perfect song
choice.. sung simply. But 90 percent of it was a
soundalike.
TESSANNE CHIN is a
frontrunner to win so far as I know, but she has yet to
have a moment. She's got a voice on her, but she needs a
connection. Hopefully she finally gets one with "If I
Were Your Woman" by Gladys Knight & the Pips. "This song
is kicking my ass," she says, "But I'm going to kick it
back."
THEY SAY: Adam says her
voice lends credence to the lyrics, solidifying her
presence as a contender. Christina wanted to hear her
pull back.
WE SAY: It is safe to say
she wins? And by that, we mean that chaos theory takes
hold next week and she mysteriously disappears?
Ray... meet Ray. RAY
BOUDREAUX plays with Ray LaMontaigne. Blake wants to
keep him close to who he is as an artist. He's going to
go with "You Are The Best Thing".
THEY SAY: Blake loved the
chorus and its bendy notes. Christina was thinking that
Ray has shown the most growth. Adam thought that he
needed to "bust out" more.
WE SAY: This is the kind
of music that Ray should be doing, and he does it
flawlessly.
Team Adam's JAMES WOLPERT
is introducing a classic to a new generation. A song
that has been introduced to a new generation at least
twice that I'm aware, Eric Carmen's "Without You". That
has a note in it that if you mess it up, the world will
know.
THEY SAY: Adam thought
that he took the song and "turn it into something...
intrinsically yours." Christina thought the voice was so
clean, though the pitch doesn't line up. Blake gets a
death threat from Adam for... something.
WE SAY: ... and he nails
it. Right before cracking. At least he puts himself into
it. Tonally, though, it's all over the place.
Down to two left. The
first of the two, Team Cee Lo's KAT ROBICHAUD. The
Twitterverse saved her, but now it's back to Kat being
the artist she is (and with that, a song that maybe a
few of us know... "We Belong" by Pat Benatar).
THEY SAY: Cee Lo says
that staging, production, and the right song with the
right performer is important. Adam thought that there
was struggle before this performance.
WE SAY: She's got a good
tone, and no doubt she's going to get some recoil from
last week's almost-elimination. But how long will it
last?
That just leaves MATTHEW
SCHULER to take on his romantic side. Christina thinks
that he can do anything. Will that include the downward
facing dog? Looks like it. Now let's sing some! It's
"Beneath Your Beautiful" by Labirinth featuring Emeli
Sande to close us out.
THEY SAY: Just cite the
crowd. They can't stop yelling.
WE SAY: It was an
animated, vibrant performance. If only Matthew's vocal
was as vibrant.
SAFE: Austin, Cole,
Tessanne, Ray
TROUBLE: Kat, Matthew, Will, Caroline
OUT: James, Jacquie
Results tomorrow. Two
people are going home.
