The
Wheel of Misfortune
March 20
For the last eight weeks, you have been
watching ten people enter Solitary in the hopes of being the last one to
leave. Seven weeks and seven players later, we're down to the final
three... Martial artist Rommel, student Kelsey, and Solitary 2.0
runnerup Tyler. By the end of the hourminuteday, one of these three will
be $50,000 richer... But for now... the treatment continues...
The pods, once more...
2) Rommel Gargoles
30
Martial arts instructor |
3) Kelsey Thorn
20
Student |
| |
6) Tyler Tongate
29
environmentalist/Solitary 2.0 runner up |
We are down to
penalty squats. Remember, Rommel has the most penalty time out
of the three.
And Tyler is down. Will he
get back up or hit the red button? He... hits the red button, saying
that his body quit on him. He was a true champion... but his Solitary
journey ends here for GOOD. Ironically, on a challenge involving chains.
Tyler... please evacuate your pod... again. "Goodbye, number.... Tyler."
And then there were two.
Next round... there will be no end... but there will be no beginning
either. TREATMENT ENDS. Welcome to the finals!
Next up, a little bit of
every treatment... a monkey suit, a crown of nails, and a banana...
First, let's deal with the
bananas. You can eat two, eat one pass one, or pass both. Rommel gets
three nanners, Kelsey, only one.
Next, wasabi shooters. You
can drink two, drink one pass one, or pass both. Rommel gets one, Kelsey
gets three. And Kelsey pukes. As this is not a Treatment, this is not a
quit. And Kelsey pukes some more.
Next, 30 laps in the monkey
suit. Kelsey goes 15 a piece. Rommel accepts.
Finally, 10 minutes in the
throne... 32 points. Five minutes each, Rommel says. Kelsey rejects it,
so both will sit for 10.
TEST: This Network Will
Self-Destruct in Three... Two... One...
All you have to do
is decipher a code of colors made impossible by the conditions
of Solitary. Expect color, words, and sounds to collide as you
compete for an advantage in the final Treatment. Winner gets the
advantage. Loser... BOOM.
1) What is the background
color of the 13th screen? Answer: RED.
2) What is the word on the screen the 6th time you hear the word
"Yellow"? Answer: BLUE.
It only gets harder for the
players as they go on looking at the sequences of colors, words, and
sounds. Total sensory overload ensues.
- What color do you get if
you mix the 10th background color with the 29th written color? Rommel
goes with purple. Kelsey takes green.
The background color was...
yellow. The word was blue. That is green. Kelsey has it. Rommel... BOOM.
But we're not done yet. Kelsey still has to disarm her bomb.
- What color occurs exactly
19 times in any form?
Kelsey goes with orange....
CORRECT! The advantage will give her a leg up, but will that be enough?
TREATMENT: The Wheel of
Misfortune
In the end, there
can only be one. And by the end of this Treatment, someone's
going to be richer by 50 Gs. Run to exhaustion on a hamster
wheel, only resting when you have solved a word puzzle. To earn
a guess at a letter, you must complete three revolutions. Guess
the word, give your opponent a penalty round. This will continue
until one of you runs out of steam, and the other runs away with
$50,000.
As the winner of the last
test, Kelsey has earned two penalty passes.
Kelsey gets the first word,
RUN. Rommel's penalty is 10 laps in one minute. Rommel gets the second
word, POD, with no letters. Kelsey gets the same penalty. Kelsey gets
VAL, sending Rommel running for 15 laps in two minutes. She also gets
FAST, sending Rommel running 20 for 2.
Time after time, Kelsey
guesses word after word, sending Rommel up a wall. Literally. Up until
now, he has not quit a challenge. But after running penalty after
penalty... some self-inflicted... Rommel finally throws in the towel. As
the first one to quit this treatment, it's time for Rommel.... to
evacuate his pod.
But... the treatment
continues. Six letter word to Kelsey... WINNER. And guess what, Kelsey
Thorn, #3... YOU'RE A WINNER!
So that's the fourth series
of Solitary. It's a good show that honestly deserved a better fate. And
with the advent of the internet and large groups of fans, we may yet see
this show again. Hope springs eternal... even in Solitary.
TRANSMISSION TERMINATED.
