Finals: Kreitz/Chakravarthy/Klein - Part 2 - February 17

Fifteen of the brightest teenagers from all across the country have been cut to the final three, as Matt Klein, Papa Chakravarthy, and Andrew Kretiz compete in a two-day match. At the end of this rainbow, a pot of gold... $75,000 at least.

The first runner-up receives $25,000 at least, while the second runner-up wins at least $15,000.

Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.

And now... the deciding match...

$4000
MATT KLEIN

Jeopardy! categories: Vertebrates, Adam Sandler Films, Teen Potpourri, Smallville, Turn On Your Computer, Homophones.

Daily Double: $1000 Homophones. Papa ($5200 over Matt's $4400 and Andrew's -$600) bets $1500. The clue: part of a horse's harness, or pertaining to a woman on her wedding day. Papa’s response: "What is bridle/bridal?" Correct for $6700.

End of round:
Andrew: -$600
Papa: $6900
Matt: $6800

Double Jeopardy! categories: Fantasy Novels, Born First, Opera--It's Good For You!, Teen Cuisine, Let's Look to the Stars, Señor Class.

Daily Double #1: $1600 Let's Look at the Stars. Papa ($12,500 to Matt's $8400 and Andrew's $1000): "Not what I was hoping for!" He bets $3500. The clue: in 1862 Alvan Clark discovered the first white dwarf, a companion of this star also called Alpha Canis Majoris. Papa's response: "What is Sirius?" Correct for $16,000.

Daily Double #2: $1600 Señor Class. Papa ($16,800 to Matt’s $8000 and Andrew’s $3800): "Maybe I'm attracted to 'em, I don't know." He fronts $2200. The clue: Señor Garcia's geography test included Cabo de Buena Esperanza, which is on this continent. Papa’s response: "What is South America?" Correct response: what is Africa (the clue referred to the Cape of Good Hope)? Papa drops to $14,600.

Papa needed a good showing today... and he got it.

End of round:
Andrew: $4600
Papa: $23,000
Matt: $8400

Now it's just a matter of remembering what he had coming into the match. If he does and bets accordingly (i.e, $1000), it's all but over for Andrew and Matt.

Final Jeopardy! category: Former World Capitals. The clue: in 1998 Czar Nicholas II & his wife Alexandra were laid to rest in this city. Correct response: What is St. Petersburg?

Andrew's response: What is St. Petersburg? RIGHT. Wager: $4599. Total: $9199.
Matt’s response: What is Stalingrad? WRONG. Wager: $8400. Total: $0.
Papa’s response: What is St. Petersburg? RIGHT. Wager: $1601. Total: $24,601.

Come to Papa, indeed...
