Preliminaries: Chakravarthy/Peña/Schlax - February 9

Fifteen of the brightest teenagers from all across the country have descended upon Los Angeles to compete in the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament, where one will walk away with $75,000 cash money and the mantle of Teen Champion.

Another standard two-week affair awaits as the first runner-up receives $25,000 at least, while the second runner-up wins at least $15,000.

Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.

Yesterday, Camille Bullock, Joseph Graumann, and Iddoshe Hirpa all made their case for semifinalist. But only Iddoshe prevailed. Will we see another such race today?

Jeopardy! categories: World Capitals, Today’s Horoscope, Jr.’s & Sr.’s, Fruits & Veggies, Tools of the Trade, Rhymes with Teen

Daily Double: $1000 World Capitals. Papa ($1000 to Kenny’s $400) bets it all. The clue: the name of this Middle Eastern capital is Persian for “warm place”. Papa’s response: “What is Tehran?” Correct for $2000.

End of round:
Papa: $6800
Allison: $3000
Kenny: $5000

Double Jeopardy! categories: Around the Body, Single Women, Taking Flight, Famous Faces, Animal Adversaries Speak, “X” Boxed

Daily Double #1: $2000 Around the Body. Apparently not that pleased, Kenny ($7400 to Papa’s $8000 and Allison’s $3800) just has to figure out what to bet. He bets $1000. The clue: some 2 million nephrons in this pair of organs filter about 180 liters of blood each day. Kenny’s
response: “What is the liver?” PAIR… “Kidneys” is the money answer, leaving Kenny with $6400.

Daily Double #2: $1600 Animal Adversaries Speak. Papa ($8400 to Kenny’s $11,200 and Allison’s $4200) fronts $3000 for the lead. The clue: “I initiated a hostile takeover because Snowball had no business sense & would have bankrupted the homestead.” Papa’s response: “What is ‘Animal Farm’?” Right for $11,400!

(C-Note: I can hear Gordon screaming after $800 Single Women…

Clue: “Free Yourself” & know that “Life Is Not a Fairy Tale” for this third “American Idol” winner.
Allison: “Who is Diana DeGarmo?”

This turned out to be a triple-stumper.)

End of round:
Papa: $13,800
Allison: $12,600
Kenny: $14,400

It looks like we may have another threesome in next week’s final... Of course, the game isn’t over yet, though.

Final Jeopardy! category: Congress. The clue: the word for this job comes from a fox-hunting term for someone who keeps the hunting dogs from straying. Correct response: What is a whip?

Allison’s response: What is the whip? RIGHT. Wager: $3800. Total: $16,400.
Papa’s response: What is a whip? RIGHT. Wager: $4800. Total: $18,000. SEMI-FINALIST
Kenny’s reponse: What is a page? WRONG. Wager: $13,201. Total: $1199.

Everything that was said about the last group can be applied to this group as well. It was a close one all the way through. Even Kenny was astute in wagering… too bad he got it wrong.

Now to the all-important leaderboard. It is now a given that we’ll see Allison back next week. Joining her will be Camille Bullock from yesterday’s show. Now Joseph Graumann ($11,000) and Sebastian Johnson ($10,700) are on the fringe. It all depends on tomorrow’s show. See you then!
