Finals: Hammerstrom/Giardina/Pearson - Part 1
November 21
Last week, 15 of America's best and brightest teachers came together to play on our Teachers' Tournament. Of those, nine survive to play this week - five game winners and four wild-cards. Now only three teachers - two wild cards and automatic qualifier John Pearson - have a shot at $100,000 and a spot in the next Tournament of Champions.

What challenges await these educators? How will they rise to meet them? The answers to these questions could be worth $100,000 for the winner, $50,000 for the first runner-up, and $25,000 for the second runner-up in a standard two-match affair.

PART ONE!

Daily Double: $800 Dinosaur Names. Mary Beth has $4200, trailing John by $800. She bets that much on this: the high-flying pterodactyl's name means "winged" this body part. "What are fingers?" RIGHT for $5000 to tie!

Daily Double #1: $1600 Nonfiction. Mary Beth is $1000 behind the lead enjoyed by John ($9800). She goes $1000 on this: this bestseller by Lynne Truss has been described as "a book for people who love punctuation". "What is 'Eats, Shoots & Leaves'?" RIGHT for $9800, tied for the lead.

Daily Double #2: $1600 Charter School. Mary Beth has almost a 2-to-1 lead over John, $16,600 to John's $8600. She bets $600 on this: the Pfaffenbrief or Priests' Charter of 1370 made the first mention of a confederation that became this country. "What is Germany?" No, it's Switzerland, leaving her with $16,000.

At the end of Double Jeopardy!...

Remember, this a two-day point total.

Final Jeopardy! category: US PRESIDENTS

THE SECOND MAN TO BECOME PRESIDENT WHO WAS NEVER ELECTED TO THE JOB, HE TWICE RAN FOR THE POSITION UNSUCCESSFULLY

Correct response: who was Millard Fillmore?

Becky's response: who is Andrew Johnson? WRONG. Wager: $5000. Total: $0.
John's response: who is Andrew Johns Fillmore? CORRECT. Wager: $6600. Total: $15,200.
Mary Beth's response: who is Chester Arthur? WRONG. Wager: $5000. Total: $11,000

So it looks like it will ultimately be a two person affair unless Becky plays lights out tomorrow.

$11,000 $0 $15,200

A big money moment NEXT TIME!
