Preliminaries: Dillon/Hammerstrom/Sorenson
November 12
The newest in Jeopardy!'s line of great challenges is coming around again, with fifteen of America's greatest teachers being honored by coming to play the great American quiz show of record. At stake, $100,000 and a shot at $250,000 later on in the next Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions.

What challenges await these educators? How will they rise to meet them? The answers to these questions could be worth $100,000 for the winner, $50,000 for the first runner-up, and $25,000 for the second runner-up. Semifinalists are guaranteed $10,000, while everyone who competes gets $5000 and a copy of "Classroom Jeopardy!". Any and all prizes depend on how far up a player moved in the standings.

So far, Anne Baxter of Ypsilanti, MI has the first seat on Semifinalist's Row. Who'll join her out of these three?

Patrick Dillon
Manhasset, NY
Munsey Park ES
Mary Beth Hammerstrom

Daily Double #1: $1600 Your Mythic ABCs. Mary Beth has a chance to narrow the gap between her $3800 and Patrick's $8800. She's ... going $1000 on this: C: this Greek sea monster is the personification of whirlpools. "Who is the Kraken?" That begins with K. "Charybdis" begins with C. She drops to $2800.

Daily Double #2: $1600 Quotable Quotes. She has a chance again with $4800 to Patrick's $10,800. She bets $2000 on this: at the Brandenburg Gate in 1987, President Reagan gave "Mr. Gorbachev" this 4-word challenge. "What is 'tear down this wall'?" That's it for $6800!

At the end of Double Jeopardy!... It went from sure thing to a fight rather quickly.

Final Jeopardy! category: HISTORIC OBJECTS

IN 1802, 3 YEARS AFTER IT WAS DISCOVERED, IT WAS MOVED TO LONDON UNDER THE TERMS OF THE SURRENDER OF ALEXANDRIA

Correct response: what is the Rosetta Stone?

Kati's response: what is King Tut's tomb? WRONG. Wager: $4001. Total: $399.
Mary Beth's response: what is the Rosetta Stone? CORRECT. Wager: $4800. Total: $20,000.
Patrick's response: what is the Rosetta Stone? CORRECT. Wager: $7502. Total: $26,702.

Semifinalist: Patrick Dillon

Patrick had it in the bag, then Mary Beth came on strong in the late game. Now the two face the possibility of facing each other AGAIN. Patrick needs to not let up an inch if he wants to keep the game locked away.

So we have the first two in. Tomorrow, we'll have the first two out.
