Round
of 7: Classic Rock
April 3
No ballads,
no slow dancing. Just solid rock. Seven Idolers rocked
the stage classic style. Rock'n'roll may be here to
stay, but one Idol dream could die tonight. Who gets the
encore and who gets the hook? That, plus Casey James &
the lady who took it all and then some in season 4,
Carrie Underwood, as we go LIVE to Television City...
First, in need of "Somebody
to Love" (Queen), here... are the top 7 lip-sucking it up.
Next up, a Ford Fiesta Idol
Mission: "Who is your idol?" Create looks for a fashion shoot inspired
by your own idols. Because, again... you really want to see a video of
these guys? Ninety seconds of singing... Three minutes of whatever...
Sounds like a logical choice.
Jimmy is baffled by last
night. Most of the singers are either R&B or country. Rock is born from
R&B and country. So what's the problem?
BURNELL: "He gave rock a bad
name last night. At the very least, he's in the bottom two."
LAZARO/ANGIE: "It was
cabaret, like a variety show. Freddie Mercury would've never written
(Crazy Little Thing Called Love) like they sang it."
KREE: "Kree did pick the
right song last night. Can you imagine what it's like to sing with a
pinch nerve? She sings with dignity."
CANDICE/BURNELL: "Burnell
has the right song. I'm buying it, until Candice comes in."
JANELLE: "Did a confident
job. Maybe should've gone with a Bob Seger or a John Fogarty. She knows
who she is. She came in fourth last night."
LAZARO: "I didn't like it as
much as the judges. He did a reasonable job. His voice is not ready
yet."
AMBER/JANELLE/KREE: "THIS
WASN'T GREAT! Three great soul singers, and somehow it looked like an
outtake of Grease."
CANDICE: "She's in the top 3
tonight, but this was not one of her top 3 performances."
AMBER: "Improving every
week. Seems like her legs are getting longer."
ANGIE: "Really pleased with
Angie's performance last night. Although at times the producers were
trying to knock her off the stage with the wind machine at tornado
setting. She's a great singer, but she needs to have the confidence to
go with her gut."
HIS TOP 3: Amber, Angie,
Kree. Going home: Lazaro.
IDOL UPDATE: Remember Casey
James from season 9? Took off his shirt for Victoria Beckham? Since
Idol, he's been sharpening his country chops, and his first album went
to #2 on the country charts in 2012. Tonight, he's back on the stage
with his own song, "The Good Life". He didn't come alone, though. He has
gifts! What are they? We'll find out... AFTER THE BREAK.
.... or not.
So who do the judges think
belong in the top 3?
KEITH: Kree, Angie, Amber.
NICKI: Same as Keith's
RANDY: Same as Nicki's
MARIAH: Kree, Amber, Candice
But what did AMERICA say?
SERIOUS LIGHTS, SERIOUS MUSIC!
AMERICA: Kree, Angie, Lazaro.
We're at Defcon Chaos. And
if you are a fan of Idol, you know strange things happen at the round of
7.
Now let's go to 2005 for a
moment. A student and farmhand from Oklahoma went on an American Idol
audition, and the rest as they say is her story. With her new single
"See You Again"... People of the internet, welcome back the 2005
American Idol... ... 'sCarrieUnderwood,youguys!
ALSO SAFE:
Candice Glover and her bum wheel (she sprained her toe)
Amber Holcomb
Your bottom two: Janelle
Arthur and Burnell Taylor. Hey, they rhyme!
After over 25 million votes,
the person who will be singing for their life tonight...
... is.... BURNELL
TAYLOR. One more song to save himself, "Ready for Love" by India.Arie.
And he's singing it to Amber. Well, the last bar anyway.
The judges... WILL NOT SAVE
HIM TONIGHT.
Lazaro is literally the last
man standing. Can he survive next week? Lazarus died for four days only
to come back. We'll see if life imitates the Bible next week. Until
then, remember to support local & independent music!
