Round
of 8: Imported From Detroit
March 28
Last night,
the Idolers went to Michigan to write their songbook.
But when all is said and done, only seven will motor to
the next round. The other one's going to have his or her
Idol dreams stalled by the side of the road. All that,
and performances by Katharine McPhee & One Republic,
Keith Urban, and season 11's Colton Dixon. It's Results
Time!
First of all, happy 450th
episode! Here's "Old Time Rock & Roll" by Bob Seger courtesy the top 8.
It's been a while since Ford
has asked anything of the Idols. This week, we start our first "Fiesta
Movement Idol Mission": give the gift of song to a bunch of school kids.
Means a lot more than a music video with these finalists and a lot more
pleasing to the ear, frankly.
So we got what you think
about last night. Here's what Jimmy thought.
Candice: "She's not going
anywhere but the top."
Kree/Janelle: "Kree is a
pro, Janelle looked like an amateur."
Lazaro: "Lazaro did much
better this week than he did last week."
Janelle: "It was so, so
transcending of anything she did."
Devin: "He was very very
good, but compared to every one else, he came up short."
Candice/Angie/Amber: "It was
really , really , really good. Unique sound and unique look. I'd make a
record with those girls tomorrow."
Burnell: "I was impressed."
Angie: "I'm not sure if
these kids should be picking their own songs."
Amber: "I would bet anything
that she's not in the bottom three this week."
Lazaro/Devin/Burnell: "I
guess we have a new boy band in town, and this one's called WRONG
Direction."
Kree: "(Her top register) is
so beautiful."
OVERALL: "I would say the
boys are in the bottom three, and I would think Lazaro is going home."
Last night, Smokey Robinson
told Aretha Franklin to turn on Kree's performance... she said she was
NOT going anywhere. ... She's right. She ISN'T going anywhere.
Let's break from the results
to welcome back to the Idol stage a finalist who is tearing up the
Christian and gospel charts. Singing his new single, "Love Has Come For
Me", COLTON DIXON! (The album is called "A Messenger", it's out now).
Next up, singing their new
single "If I Lose Myself" with season 4 alum and "Smash" star Katharine
McPhee, it's ONEREPUBLIC!
And finally... Ryan's in
Keith's seat, because KEITH URBAN is hitting the stage with his new one,
"Long Hot Summer". Hey, we got an hour to fill. Oh, Keith'll be out on
tour soon with Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch. More info at
americanidol.com.
And now... SERIOUS LIGHTS,
SERIOUS MUSIC.
SAFE:
Kree Harrison (well, duh!)
Candice Glover
Janelle Arthur
Angie Miller
Amber Holcomb
And Jimmy called it. The MEN
are in the bottom three.
Mariah makes another bold
prediction: it will not be a unanimous decision on the one-save
tonight.... but Burnell doesn't have to worry about that. He's safe.
Singing for his life
tonight... after nearly 26 million votes... is DEVIN VELEZ.
Devin will sing for the
save, "It's Impossible (Somos Novios)". See, if he sang like this all
the time, he wouldn't be in danger. He'd be more than just one of the
five R&B singers in the contest. And yes, there's still a glut.
Three weeks to use the
save... but they will NOT use it tonight. As Mariah predicted, it was
not unanimous.
And then there were seven.
Until next week, remember to support local & independent music!
