Week 8:
They're Not Rookies, Just Veterans
November 9
Veterans Day may be on Wednesday, but tonight,
they'll act like veterans by giving out 2 routines to dance to. It'll have to be
a week before the semifinals, and more possibly, the grand championship. Let's
begin.
BALLROOM ROUND
Up first is Mya & Dmitry doing a quickstep to "Baby Wants a Diamond Ring" by the
Squirrel Nut Zippers. They had to take quickness and use it in the routine. Now
to the judges. Carrie Ann said it made something so difficult, Len said her
priority was the wow factor and Bruno said it was full of flavor. Let's add
spice to the scoreboard:
CARRIE: 9
LEN: 10
BRUNO: 10
Round 1 Score: 29
Next up will be Aaron & Karina doing a foxtrot to "Lucky" by Jason Mraz & Colbie
Caillat. Despite fighting the flu, they dragged it off and danced on live TV.
Now to the judges. Carrie Ann said her foot left the floor...is that an
infraction? Len said that watching him is like watching his son in a toy store,
and Bruno said it felt a little tense. Let's watch the scoreboard:
CARRIE: 7
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 8
Round 1 Score: 23
Now we have Joanna & Derek doing a quickstep to "Valerie" by Amy Winehouse.
Using footage of rival Mya doing the quickstep had paid off for her. Will that
pay to the judges? Carrie Ann said it had a few out of sync moments, Len said it
had a lot of running about, and Bruno said they ran away from a scene of a
crime. Let's run to the leaderboard:
CARRIE: 8
LEN: 7
BRUNO: 8
Round 1 Score: 23
Now we got Kelly & Louis doing a foxtrot to "Mama Do" by Pixie Lott. They did
some nice grapevine moves and some nice work. Now to the judges. Carrie Ann said
she needs more extension of her range, Len said it had a few mistakes with her
footwork and Bruno said she can be so light & ethereal. Here's the numbers:
CARRIE: 8
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 9
Round 1 Score: 25
To wrap up the half, Donny & Kym doing a Viennese waltz to "You Don't Know Me"
by Michael Buble. It took elegance to use it in the routine. Now to the judges.
Carrie Ann said it was mesmerizing, Len said it was improvement in his posture
and Bruno said it was like a Lifetime Movie. Now let's go ESPN with the scores:
CARRIE: 9
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 9
Round 1 Score: 26
So far tonight, Mya dominates with a near-perfect score, but the rest is trying
to catch her. Maybe the Latin round will. Here we go.
LATIN ROUND
The leader will kick things off by doing a samba to "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer.
Keep in mind in this stipulation, all songs will be from a certain decade. As
for the routine, she blended a little disco with the routine. How did it go?
Let's see what the judges said. Carrie Ann said she believed it, Len said she's
on fire and Bruno said she's unbelievable. Um, scores?
CARRIE: 10
LEN: 10
BRUNO: 10
Round 2 Score: 30
Overall Score: 59
Here's Aaron & Karina doing a 90's samba to "Two Princes" by The Spin Doctors.
He used moves to Karina to show him some spirit of the decade. Now we show the
camera to the judges. Carrie Ann said it really hit that, Len said he came out &
performed it, and Bruno said it was the 90's off beat. Let's see if the
scoreboard whacked themselves in the head.
CARRIE: 9
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 9
Round 2 Score: 27
Overall Score: 50
Next is Joanna & Derek doing a future paso doble to "Living on Video" by
Trans-X. Believe it or not, they did the dance.... with a glow in the dark twist
to it. Let's add light and go to the judges. Carrie Ann said it was an
outstanding execution of the theme, Len said it was Genius, and Bruno said it
was a masterful reinvention of a classic. The numbers say:
CARRIE: 9
LEN: 10
BRUNO: 10
Round 2 Score: 29
Overall Score: 52
Kelly & Louis dance a 60's Jive to "River Deep, Mountain High" by Ike & Tina
turner. For it, they fought over a rag doll early on and dressed up in the
decade. Now the judges say something. Carrie Ann said it was one of her best
performances, Len said it was a revelation to her and Bruno said Groovy, baby.
We can dig that. Here's the numbers:
CARRIE: 8
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 9
Round 2 Score: 26
Overall Score: 51
To end the whole night, Donny & Kym doing a 80's paso doble to "You Spin Me
Round (Like a Record)" by Flo...er, Dead or Alive. It fitted the decade with fog
& wind machines along with clothing & hair. With the dance over, we get the
judges. Carrie Ann said it was hysterical, Len said it was the most crazy
bizarre dance and Bruno said nobody could top him. Let's end it with this....
CARRIE: 8
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 8
Round 2 Score: 24
Overall Score: 50
I wish we had a time machine to relive my 80's childhood, but we're out of time.
Here's the final tally:
Mya: 59
Joanna: 52
Kelly: 51
Aaron/Donny: 50
For one couple, time is running out, and in our 1-hour results show, which of
these 4 couples will get an extension? You'll find out tomorrow. See you at 9
o'clock, playas!
