Week 1: ...
and Then There Are the Divas
September 22
Yesterday, the men danced for your hearts,
but now the women will dance, too, as we continue with the very first
week of season 9.
This time, they'll do the waltz and the salsa. Up first is Debi &
Maksim. They'll salsa on this show. A couple of highlights were a jump
over by Debi and some arm work by both. Now we go to the judges.
Carrie Ann said she needs to connect things more, Len said her leg &
hip action is missing, and Bruno said she can work those "Bazoms." I
have no idea, but the scoreboard says...
CARRIE: 6
LEN: 5
BRUNO: 5
Total Score: 16
Not a good way to start off the show.
Here's Melissa & Mark waltzing to "Time Of My Life" by David Cook.
They put elegance in the dance, including a slow split by Melissa at
the end. Let's split over with the judges. Carrie Ann said it created
a few moments, Len said it was too sweet & sickly and Bruno said it
was called out on nervousness. Nervous about the scoreboard? We don't.
CARRIE: 6
LEN: 6
BRUNO: 6
Total Score: 18
And they're now in the lead!
Mya & Dmitry go for a waltz to "Vision Of Love" by Mariah Carey. It
was great, but by the end, the camera went right through them. Let's
go through the judges critique. Carrie Ann said it set the bar high,
Len said Dmitry let her down and Bruno said....something he screamed.
We scream numbers.
CARRIE: 8
LEN: 5
BRUNO: 8
Total Score: 21
They steal the lead away from them.
Kathy & Tony will salsa next. They both did a but of arm work and
Kathy broke it down solo. Let's break it down with the judges. Carrie
Ann asked her to loosen up, Len wants to sizzle now and Bruno wants to
see more sex on it. We see the numbers...
CARRIE: 6
LEN: 5
BRUNO: 5
Total Score: 16
And they tie for 3rd place.
Natalie & Alec go up next to salsa to "Baby Keep Smilin'" by Lou Bega.
From here, Natalie did a split and even a quick kick. On to the
judges. Carrie Ann called it a diamond in the rough, Len wants her to
be sexier and Bruno said it froze too much. Let's chill out in the
scoring area.
CARRIE: 7
LEN: 6
BRUNO: 6
Total Score: 19
And they take up 2nd place.
Next will be Macy & Johnathan waltzing to "(You Make Me Feel like a)
Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin. They did pretty well, but by the
end, they bowed. Now we go to the judges. Carrie Ann said it was
fascinating, Len said he would vote for her at home and Bruno asks her
to work on her technique more. Here's the scoreboard...
CARRIE: 6
LEN: 4
BRUNO: 5
Total Score: 15
Sent down to the basement!
Next will be Joanna & Derek doing a salsa. It was hot complete with
armwork by both and a splash pin gesture from Derek. Now to the
judges. Carrie Ann said she shares her delight with dance, Len said it
was a smoking hot salsa and Bruno said it's what a salsa should be.
And the numbers say...
CARRIE: 8
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 8
Total Score: 24
and they've catapulted into the lead.
Last to take the floor is Kelly & Louis doing a waltz to "Trouble." It
was more elegant than ever from the Osbournes' sister. Now to the
judges. Carrie Ann said her parents made her proud...really....Len
said it was the best of the night and Bruno gushed on how great it
was. Here come the numbers one last time.
CARRIE: 7
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 8
Total Score: 23
That's one point away from tying, but they get 2nd place.
SO to sum it up, Joanna, Kelly and Mya are the 3 women on top, while
Macy Gray sits on the bottom at 15. Now it's the relay dances.
Remember, 10 gets 1st, 8 will get you 2nd, 3rd gets 6 and last is 4
points. The first group will foxtrot. So with that said, the green
flag has dropped.
RELAY DANCES
As I wrote, the salsa dancers will foxtrot to "The Best Is Yet To
Come" by Frank Sinatra. Alec & Natalie start things off and Kathy &
Tony will dance next. Derek & Joanna will go up ahead and Debi & Maks
will go last. How did they do? 1st place went to.....Joanna & Derek.
2nd went to.....Natalie....3rd place....Debi, meaning dead last goes
to Kathy. Here's the 2nd group doing a cha-cha to "Centerfold" by the
J. Geils Band. The green lights flashes and it's on!
It was as much fun as the last group with all waltz dancers fighting
for position. Now let's see who gets the checkers....it is....Mya &
Dmitry....followed by.....Kelly & Louis....next comes...Melissa &
Mark, meaning last place hands them over to Macy & Johnathan. So after
a night of dancing, here's what it looks like.
Joanna & Derek have 34 and the lead, 31 goesto Kelly & Louis, Mya &
Dmitry have the same score, 27 goes to Natalie & Alec, 24 goes to
Melissa & Mark, 22 goes to Debi & Maks, Kathy & Tony get 20, and in
last place, Macy & Johnathan with 19. But will the results get shaken
up? You'll find out tomorrow.
