Alton & the Diabolical
Chocolate Factory
Valentine's Day
Special
February 8 |
Happy pre-Valentine’s day
from everyone here who looks after the ongoing fun at
Alton Brown’s International House of SabotageTM, and now
let’s meet Jackie, Stef, Dwayne and Ben, all of whom are
pastry chefs, receiving their $25,000 spending monies
for the chocolate covered special.
First up, molten lava cake. Dwayne starts the buying
frenzy by spending $6,300 to swap out the mixing
utensils of the others, giving Jackie cellophane from
roses, a champagne flute for Ben and an empty box of
chocolates for Stef. Ben gives a taste of revenge by
taking all of Dwayne’s chocolate for $4,700. In the
mid-round action, Jackie pays $9,000 to make Stef and
Dwayne hold hands. Emerging from the hermetically sealed
porch of Funk and Wagnall's Mayonnaise Jar is the
resident cranky British judge, Simon Majundar. After
tasting the cakes, Simon says that Stef and her full
bankroll are outta here.
Before Round Two, we have the following scoreboard
update: Ben leads with $20,300, followed by Dwayne at
$18,700 and Jackie with $16,000. So, how do you feel
about a savory dish with chocolate in it? That’s the
next meal up, and Jackie spends $1,800 to swap out the
proteins of the two guys, giving eggs to Ben and fish to
Dwayne. Ben buys giant chocolate bar wrappers and foil
to take away all the utensils, bowls and cookware of
Jackie for $8,200. And in another mid-round auction,
Jackie decides to “hitch” Ben and Dwayne with a “Just
Married” sign attached to each other for $5,300. Simon
returns, and going home will be Ben, and his $12,100.
Our final two are Dwayne with $18,700 and Jackie with
$8,900. And since life is a lot like them, we’re making
a box of chocolates. Dwayne pays $9,000 to take Jackie’s
chocolate ingredients and fetch replacements from a
large gooey box of the stuff, then in what may be the
dumbest bid ever heard in the kitchen, Jackie goes all
$8,900 in on making Dwayne work on an I Love
Lucy-inspired conveyor belt, costing him $1,500 in the
process. So, Dwayne has $8,200 at stake, Jackie has some
pride. Simon tastes the boxes, and chooses Dwayne.
We’ll see you next week for more of the same fun with
another surprise mystery judge.
