Empanada Chance

Welcome back to Alton
Brown’s International House of SabotageTM, and making
their way to the fun house are Dean, Cindy, Irie and
David, who get their $25,000 bankroll for bidding on
those torture-filled toys that they can give to the
others after buying them at auction, but regular readers
already know that.
First on the docket, a waffle breakfast. Cindy buys a
trio of goodies you wouldn’t use to make waffles on for
$8,000, giving a meat tenderizer to David, an ice tray
to Irie and a waffle fry slicer to Dean, and it’s going
to get worser for Dean, as David spends $7,300 to make
him mix in waffle cones. Mid-round, we see the old prep
station swap won by Irie for $9,000, making Cindy and
David swap stations and sabotages (or in Cindy’s case,
none) and finishes the other’s meal. Entering from the
hermetically sealed porch of Funk and Wagnall’s
Mayonnaise Jar is judge Antonia Lofaso. Following the
tasting, she knocks out Cindy and her $17,000.
Let’s check the scores. Dean leads with the original
$25,000, then Irie has $21,000 and Davis has $17,700,
all in time to get 45 minutes for making empanadas.
David buys the right to make Irie and Dean cook at the
stuffed station for $10,200, while Dean joins in the
fun, paying $10,100 to make Irie harvest all his
ingredients from olives. Antonia returns, and says vaya
con dios to irie, bringing back $21,000.
Dean has $14,900 and David has $7,500 for the final
round, lemon meringue pie. Dean pays $3,200 to make
David use a weighted whisk while David makes Dean wear
ski boots to make peaks for $1,000. So, Dean puts
$11,700 on the line while David has $6,500 at stake.
Antonia tastes the pies, and decides that the winner is
David.
Next week, Thanksgiving gets the Cutthroat Kitchen
