"To Betray or Not to Betray: Days 9-11" -
October 6
Day 9: The jungle begins to take its toll...
The heat... The humidity... The
overall jungle. The people. The people.. Oh yeah, and the
people. Life is beginning to suck for the Nakum.
Nurse Margaret plays triage,
although you could easily play on at home. The heat is sapping
their strength. (DING!) They have no energy. (DING!) Judd is
grumpy. (DING!) Well, we didn't need Margaret to tell us that.
Judd throws down some logs in anger as he swats at pesky
mosquitoes as the rest of the tribe sits around and ocnserves
what little energy they have left. See what happens when you eat
all of your stuff on the first day?
Judd: "The mosquitoes are all
over you all the time. You can swat at them all you like. Within
a millimeter of a second, they are back swarming around you."
Beautiful math, Judd... Just
beautiful math.
Despite having won the past two
Immunity Challenges, the tribe had paid a price. Brandon
explained, "Everything out here just wears you down. I can't
imagine how the other team feels if we are winning and feel this
bad."
Day 10: R-CHALLENGE: WHO IS THE MOST LIKELY
TO... (for various items... and one surprise)
This is one of those "it's not
so much a challenge as it is a fun activity.. for me"
challenges. Basically, it's a quiz on who is the most likely to
do certain things.
1) On both tribes, who needs
nourishment the most?
Yaxha answers Jamie. Nakum picks Danni. Crazy Uncle Jeff gives
each of them... one apple. Yay.
2) Who is the smelliest tribemate?
Gary and Bobby Jon get that
nod... and a nice cooling, refreshing shower! I.. would've taken
the apple.
3) Which man and woman on each tribe deserves to go away on a
picnic?
And you can't choose yourself.
That would be Gary and Amy for Yaxha, and Margaret and Judd for
Nakum. Each gets a picnic basket and a few moments of quality
time.
4) Of the players who remain, who has the most pride for
their tribe?
Yaxha picks Brian, and Nakum picks Cindy, and because they
proudly wear their colors, they'll wear them for a while
longer... because it's time once again for...
THE TRIBAL SWITCH!!!
And sure enough, Jeff asks the
others to drop and pull for new buffs. It's a four-for-four
switch, with the picnickers returning to their respective
tribes.
So here's the new layout...
YAXHA: Brandon, Danni, Brian,
Bobby Jon, Gary, Amy, Blake
NAKUM: Margaret, Cindy, Rafe, Stephenie, Lydia, Jamie, Judd,
Brooke
Meanwhile, still caught unawares
at their pyramid, Margaret, Gary, Judd and Amy talk turkey over
turkey. Margaret asks Gary if he is now, or has he ever been a
member of the National Football League. "I wish I was." chow Amy
says, "Who knows? Watch him be retired and he's like a
multi-millionaire. I'll kill him
I'll freaking kill him!"
Back at camp: Surprise coming
in three... two... one...
Just as Amy and Gary were
stymied (Wolvie's radioing in from the Yaxha camp), Margaret and
Judd also came back in shock. Judd and Jamie bond well, while
Margaret isn't bonding well with anyone at the moment. She
begins to scramble to make sure that the old Nakum (Margaret,
Cindy, Judd, and Brooke) hold strong. "With this switch-up
today, I don't feel safe at all, not at all."
She and Judd talk about said
concerns, and Judd... doesn't really care much. He knows that
the switch upset her, but at the same time, he's the new alpha
male. We join him with newbies Steph and Jamie, recalling how
old Jim never climbed the top of this beautiful sierra. They all
agree that Brooke needs to go back to the books, because she is
the Weakest Link Goodbye. Margaret afterwards maybe. "I have no
problems targeting my old tribe; I really don't. They have to
get out of my jungle."
Aren't we Tarzan now, Judd?
I-CHALLENGE: SPADES
AND CLUBS (Lydia sits out for Nakum)
After Nakum adds insult to
injury with a yellow feather to the Immunity Idol, the tribes
are given a boat and this challenge: paddle out to the river and
collect three bags filled with Maya war clubs. Bring them
ashore. Throw at targets place 30, 40, and 50 feet away. First
tribe to do that wins Immunity, safe for another however long it
takes. Nobody can break more than one target and the players can
switch out.
The challenge starts with a good
old fashioned regatta until... Boom. We have a bit of a
collision, and the Yaxha are veering off course. Thanks, Rafe!
The Nakum are first with their clubs, and Steph is the first to
break a plate. But Judd, being... well, Judd, refuses to let the
rule about switching and his own alpha male bravado stop him
from from a) going for the 50 footer and b) costing them the
lead. He finally connects after Yaxha does, but Brandon, the
former member of our tribe, gives a nice overhand chop before
Jamie can clip his target, giving Yaxha the win.
Thanks, Judd. No, really.
Back at camp: Judd tries to talk his way out
of an ass-kicking.
Rafe thinks they still have the better team.
Steph is sure they will still have the numbers on their side. Rafe and Steph
talk about Judd. They are not sure where he really stands. Rafe won't be
surprised if there is a tie at Tribal Council. Meanwhile, Cindy, Brooke and
Margaret (aka what's left of the old Nakum) gather. They know the score. They
agree to target Lydia. Margaret questions Judd's loyalty to them. "We have to
find out how loyal Judd is to the old Nakum tribe." And well met. I mean, have
you heard this guy?
Judd and Brooke babble. Brooke doesn't want to vote off Lydia but she is their
Weakest Link Goodbye. Then Margaret corners Judd and presses about how old
yellows are the best yellows. Judd believes that no matter what happens,
the Yaxhas will have to keep them around in order to win challenges. Judd admits
that Margaret has his wheels turning. Rafe and Lydia wonder if they have got
Judd's vote or not. So right now, Judd is the swing vote. He can either tie or
vote out an old Nakum.
Sitting alone, Judd and Steph confirm their deal with one another. Brooke is
going home. Brooke joins them and the discussions ceases. Just goes to show you
that you cannot trust anyone in the game. "My biggest concern right now is Jamie
and Stephenie not being as loyal as they say they are. When I go to Tribal
Council, I don't know who I am going to vote for. I just don't know." Judd is
still not sure whom he will vote out at Tribal, even though he has pledged that
Brooke is going. So that's probably what's going to happen tonight.
Night 11: Tribal Council....
Steph is extremely run down, as this is her
third-straight Tribal in this series. "I like to think that I am not bad luck,
because it would suck." Margaret admits that Judd was talking to the old Yaxhas.
Judd claims that he was just chillin'. Lydia is sure the new tribesmen don't
understand how strong she is. As for Brooke, it's a game of strength now and the
women are vulnerable. Judd, playing a Paul Darden, says that he's an excellent
read. Time to read votes.
Brooke: LYDIA. "You're one of the hardest workers around camp, but we need to
make this decision based on who can win Immunity."
Rafe: BROOKE. "You're an awesome person, but this vote is for strategy's sake."
Margaret: LYDIA. "I gave Brooke my word, and I
won't go back."
The rest of the votes:
Stephenie: BROOKE
Jamie: BROOKE
Lydia: BROOKE
Cindy: LYDIA
Just leaves...
Judd: BROOKE.
Five to three... Brooke, THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN.
