Round 2: Heat 2
June 25
Last week, we went from cooking for the
Marines to cooking a lamb's head. After all that, we're down to 14.
Who'll survive the next cut? Let's wake up the players and find out...
TEAM CHALLENGE #2: Breakfast
Inside the Radisson where everyone is
sleeping, the judges decide to give a 3am wake-up call. Well, make that
3:30. Because a Masterchef must be ready to cook at a moment's notice,
all of the cooks are ordered downstairs for the Team Challenge... at
4:15.
The challenge is working the early rush
and cooking ALL of the room service breakfast orders. It's the hardest
service of the day. People are hungry and in a hurry, so we're keeping
it quick and simple with oatmeal, fruit salad, pancakes, egg-white
omelette, eggs Benedict, and two eggs any style.
Christine and Josh had the best dishes
last round, so they will be captains. And because Christine won the
Innovation Test, she'll go first.
BLUE: Josh Marks
(C), Becky Reams, Frank
Mirando, Anna Rossi, Monti Carlo, David Martinez, Tali Clavijo
RED: Christine Ha (C), Felix Fang, Scott Little,
Tanya Noble, Mike Hill, Stacey Amagrande, Ryan Umane
... shut up, Ryan.
Christine gets another advantage. She can
switch out one member of her team for another on the red. She switches
out Ryan for Becky.
You have 90 minutes to prep and 90 to
serve. Assign one team member as an expediter. Christine picks Felix,
while Josh picks Monti.
Each team will have 130 orders. The rooms
will hang tags based on whose team they are most satisfied with. Least
tags goes to a Pressure Test. While Monti spends most of her time
yelling, Christine is worried about Felix's silence.
It's now 7am, and service begins... and
both teams are suffering from a breakdown. At 7:30... it's not any
better. Well, it's a little better. Blue Team is moving rooms, while
Felix is... still silent. "If we lose today, it'll be my head on the
breakfast platter." Rule number one of the expediter: communicate. The
moment you stop, it's over.
Meanwhile, the Blues are getting good
reviews from the rooms, while the Reds run out of Hollandaise. Christine
starts to get vocal. At the same time, Gordon notices that standards on
the Blue Team are slipping. In fact, one plate is sent back with a hair
on it. And the entire team dynamic on the Blues is falling apart and
threatening to destroy any chance of victory from within.
And that's time. THAT'S TIME, FELIX! STOP
SERVING! Felix admits that if the Reds lost today, it would be her
fault.
So who is the winner? By a total of 60%
to 40%, the winner... is.... .... THE RED TEAM!
PRESSURE TEST #2: Molten Lava Cake
It's a dessert that has the properties of
a cake and a souffle. Timing is crucial and so is portioning. Everything
has to be exact, and in the end, there has to be that gooey goodness of
molten chocolate.
But before we get baking, the judges
decide that three will not be cooking. Those three... David... (Shutup,
Ryan!), Frank, and Monti. Everyone else will have 45 minutes to cook up
to four cakes. If at any moment you think you've nailed it, bring it up
and be judged.
.... seriously. Shutup, Ryan.... His
cake... diarrhea'ed on the plate.
Tali is the first to serve. And his
becomes the standard, even with too much ooze. Anna's on the other
hand.... is served perfectly. Josh's cake... is a sight to behold as
well.
It's all riding on one final cake from
Ryan. More... Diarrhea.
Needless to say, he's going home tonight.
SHUT UP, RYAN.
Down to the last 13, so who's going to
win it? Of course everyone thinks THEY are going to win. We'll see...
