Gorilla?
Gorilla?? Gorilla??? Last time, the teams arrived in India to paint elephants, feed camels, and dance dance dance! Victor & Tammy are back in the lead, but the flight attendants Jodi & Christie are history. Where are we headed next? PIT STOP The first clue of this leg will tell the story. Victor & Tammy, after the break, will be the recipient of said clue.
The photo is of a giant gorilla. What they don't know is that the statue is located at the Phuket Zoo. Tammy has already been to Phuket, so this should be a breeze, right? Mel & Mike head to the travel agency. Tammy & Victor find that the fastest flight to Phuket will put them there at 8:50a local time. Kisha & Jen are off to the travel agency, as are Margie & Luke. Cara & Jaime head to the airport. Finally, Mark & Michael head to the travel agency as Mel & Mike arrive. Meanwhile, Kisha & Jen are stopped by a gaggle of kids asking for handouts. Soon enough, everyone (except maybe Cara & Jaime) are on the same flight. But as luck would have it, they too are also on the 8:50a to Phuket. PHUKET, THAILAND (14 hours later) Mark & Michael are the first to a cab, followed by Cara & Jaime, Margie & Luke, and Kisha & Jen. Tammy & Victor are taxiing with Bandit, while Mel & Mike... are left behind. All the teams are looking for the gorilla/monkey/King Kong. The locals direct them to the Phuket Zoo. Mark & Michael are the first to the zoo. But who'll find the monkey? It's Cara & Jaime!
Mark & Michael is the first to see Esso. Interesting thing about the handler: he has only one arm. Cara & Jaime, Kisha & Jen, Tammy & Victor and Margie & Luke. Mel & Mike are still trying to find the gorilla. Mark & Michael give the rest of the Racers a free preview of what's in store. And for their show, they get this...
No one has seen Mike & Mel. Good reason. They're looking around for the zoo, per a direction from a local. Actually, no one knows where the zoo is. Sorry. Meanwhile, Cara & Jaime pass the "Tweedles" to move into first. They're also the first team to find the herb shop. They'll have to pick from the drawers in order to get their last clue. Mark & Michael do it successfully.
Mark & Michael go to the temple as Tammy & Victor join the others at the herb shop. Kisha & Jen find a clue and go haul barrels. Then Luke makes a lucky pick, followed by Tammy & Victor. Jaime & Cara eventually find the clue, as she decides to head to the harbor. Mark & Michael pump their tires and head off... right after they put all the tools and pumps into the box to trip up the other teams. The Cheerleader/Louisville/Deaf Kid alliance end up at the wrong harbor, but decide to caravan to the correct one. Tammy & Victor head off before using the pumps in the box at about the same time Mel & Mike find their next clue. Michael & Mark switch midway, but they find the park in no time! Cara & Jaime decide to do the rickshaws instead. Margie & Luke follow suit. But Mark & Michael are the first to arrive at...
Meanwhile, Kisha & Jen stack barrels. PIT STOP Mark & Michael are the first to arrive at the temple, where they meet Phil and the happy local. They are... the first team to arrive... BUT... due to TWO infringements of the rules (following a taxi to the end of the Detour and tampering with the setup of said Detour with the pumps), they will have to incur TWO 30-minute penalties. Therefore, Mark & Michael must wait one hour before officially checking in. Ten minutes later, Victor & Tammy are in the street. Tammy wants to switch. Meanwhile Cara & Jaime and Margie & Luke are giving chase. Kisha & Jen keep it going with the barrels. Mel & Mike arrive and do both parts of the barrel run as Kisha & Jen begin the second part of the Detour. Oops. Cara & Jaime switch. Victor & Tammy see the park in their sights. Margie can't get Luke's attention, so they switch. Tammy & Victor drop their rickshaw off at the park entrance and run to the next clue... only to find out that they were supposed to rickshaw their way there! Oops again! Tammy says that they have to go back and get the rickshaw. Will Victor listen for once? They as well as Cara & Jaime taxi to the next Pit Shop. (C-Note: And a special welcome to all of you who are just tuning in for Cold Case) Twelve minutes left for Mark & Michael. Margie & Luke switch again as they arrive at the park, physically exhausted. Mark & Michael have four minutes left. In those four minutes... Phil declares Tammy & Victor as the first team to arrive. Their prize: a trip to Oahu! Phil also declares Cara & Jaime team #2. Mark & Michael are checked in as team #3. Margie & Luke clock in as team #4... but Margie, asking for water, collapses at the crash mat. MEDIC! A visibly frightened Luke looks on as the medic suggests an ambulance. Kisha & Jen finish the Detour first... and sneeze their way to the Pit Stop. Actually, they go to the wrong temple. Mel & Mike finish the Detour and head to the Pit Stop. Now it's a Race... Who will arrive first? It's going to be... KISHA & JEN! They're team #5. Leaving Mel & Mike to bring up the rear. And both are on their way back to the States. Mel thinks the world of his mature son, as does Mike his father. Both are now more than just family. They're teammates... but they'll have to be teammates elsewhere.
