Last month, millions of
Americans watched as four pop titans whittled their
teams to the final 12. Now each of them are going to go
to battle, and with the Steal option in play, it's still
anyone's game. Welcome to the Battle Rounds!
A reminder of the rules. Two singers from the same team will perform the same song in tandem. The coach will then decide which singer to keep. They move on to the Knockouts, while the other singer is available for the other coaches to steal. Each coach can steal TWICE, so it's up to them to use their power wisely. To help them make a decision, each coach will enlist another: - ADAM: rock'n'roll queen
Stevie Nicks Artists... PREPARE FOR BATTLE! #TEAMPHARRELL: Elyjuh Rene vs. Maiya Sykes Elyjuh took a risk by invoking Beyonce, while Maiya went old-school. Together, they will kick off the Battles with Alicia's "If I Ain't Got You". A tall ask playing for your sub-coach. Gwen thought it was unbelievable, connecting "like a Lego". Adam sides with the ethereal Elyjuh, having covered this song. Blake says Maiya is "world class", but he picks Elyjuh. PHARRELL PICKS: Elyjuh Rene. Will anyone take a flyer on Maiya? Nope. #TEAMADAM: Chris Jamison vs. Jonathan Wyndham Chris used music as a standout. Jonathan literally sings for his supper. They will try to avoid being star-struck as they venture on "Young Girls" by Bruno Mars. Blake says that Jonathan was cutting and Chris was loud. Pharrell says Chris won the battle. Gwen says Chris' stage presence is incredible. ADAM PICKS: Chris Jamison. Jonathan Wyndham is open to steal... And closed. #TEAMGWEN: Jean Kelley vs. Sugar Joans Jean turned two in the Blinds from the pain-derived performance. Meanwhile, Sugar's power is genetic. Nature vs. nurture in this battle, and Gwen enlists "Survivor" by Destiny's Child. Adam thought the song was hard, but the performance was excellent. Blake thought it was dead even. Pharrell, same thing. GWEN PICKS: Sugar Joans. Jean is still available... but not for long. STEAL TIME! Adam & Pharrell both want Jean... so it's up to her. She picks... PHARRELL! #TEAMBLAKE: Craig Wayne Boyd vs. James David Carter Craig is a soulful country artist from south of Dixie. James is also a soulful country artist from south of Dixie. Only one of these people can take their twang to the Knockouts, so Blake goes with "Wave on Wave" by Pat Green, which is a little contemporary country, a little Southern rock. Pharrell scores it a draw. Gwen agrees. Adam agrees.... BLAKE PICKS: James. Anyone want a country singer? Nope. #TEAMGWEN: Amanda Lee Peers vs. Taylor John Williams Amanda went from church to graphic design back to music. Gwen jumped on it. Taylor went from dog hotel to music, and Gwen AND Adam jumped on it. They're going to jump on "Jolene" by Dolly Parton. Adam went with Taylor, despite him not picking him. Blake goes with Amanda. Pharrell abstains... GWEN PICKS: Taylor John Williams. Will Amanda make another team? Blake seems like a candidate... guess not. Moving to the final battle of the night... #TEAMPHARRELL: Griffin vs. Luke Wade Griffin was a classic sound that turned three. Luke was more of an accident that turned all four. They're going to close the show with "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney & Wings. Everybody likes how high both singers went, though Blake thinks Griffin may have won. PHARRELL PICKS: Luke Wade. Blake liked Griffin, but is there a spot on his team for him? YES! Gwen's also in on this. Adam... stays well behind. Griffin picks... BLAKE! And just like that, it's on and poppin'.
