Blind Auditions 1 Season Premiere
September 22
Six seasons... six coaches... still no star. Hopefully the addition of new coaches Gwen Stefani of No Doubt and Pharrell Williams - in for a pregnant Christina Aguilera and a judge that was being a very very VERY bad boy - can change that. But one thing doesn't change.. It's still all about the voice. The coaches will pick their ponies sight unseen.  As a reminder, Adam has two trophies, while Blake has three.

All four coaches kick off the season with a performance of "Hella Good".

From there, we go to the Voice stages at Universal Studios Hollywood and the first audition... Luke Wade (31, Austin, TX), who came from a family of artists. As a kid, he had to clean his mother's dance studio, where he fell in love with the soul music that defines him. He was in a paintball accident when he was 13, and has no vision in his right eye as a result. Will we see him on target when he performs "That's How Strong My Love Is"? AND WE HAVE A FOUR TURN! But who will Luke choose? He chooses Pharrell, and Pharrell has made his first successful sale of his career on "The Voice".

Clara Hong (21, Atlanta) was born in South Korea, and emigrated to the US at age 8. She learned English by listening to American music. Ever since she was little, she had a sense of rhythm, but during college, she couldn't find something to light her creative spark. She already has her eyes on Pharrell. Her performance of "Chuck E's in Love" gets Pharrell's chair turning... and Gwen's. And Adam's. Nothing for Blake, so he's missing out. Pharrell is the first to notice how clear her tone is. And Adam's the first to say that he was the first to turn around. That.. seems to work, because ADAM gets her girl. She wanted to hit up Pharrell, but Adam's pitch won her over.

Bryana Salaz (16, San Antonio) moved around a lot, like every two years, because her father is in the military. She's lived in Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, Virginia, Hawaii, California, and Texas. She was 12 when she was in her first talent show. Her father is recovering from Hepatitis C and can't hear her sing tonight. But he gave her a necklace and his well wishes. She's going to give up "Problem" by Ariana Grande. Adam... Blake... Gwen... and no Funny Hat Boy. But that's okay, because she's officially a contestant. The question now is who will hone her talents? The one who played the Girl Card. Welcome to Team GWEN!

Dennis Bell (52; Mansfield, LA) is in the dirt contracting business. It's a family affair, with his mother keeping the books. He wants to make the transition from the rodeo circuit to the Voice stage, having done everything from Elvis to Bocephus. His father had a heart attack, and he had to give up music to run the business. But now it's time to get back on the horse and ride. He'll do it with "She Used to Be Mine" by Brooks & Dunn. Blake is hovering.... he's hovering... But he can't make that commitment. No chairs turn, and this is as far as Dennis goes.

In the Voicemobile (a not-tricked out Nissan that Carson uses), we head from Universal City to LAX to meet Damien (35; Monroe, LA), who moved out to LA to pursue music. He ended up with a job at TSA, where he was in the November 1 shooting that resulted in at least one death. Hopefully this is a ticket out of the high stress of the day job. All he needs is one yes on "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye" .... he gets FOUR. But which one will get Damien's seal of approval? It's.. ADAM!

Next up, Allison Bray (18, Louisville, KY), who is returning from season 6 and a no-turn. Blake put the challenge forward that season. Now she's come to seal the deal with "Merry Go 'Round" by Kacey Musgraves. And... She's got Blake AND Gwen to turn around! And here comes Adam! But who will Allison hitch up to? She naturally goes with BLAKE.

Megg (23; Redondo Beach, CA) was in her first musical when she was 9. She has since studied pop music at USC's Thornton School of Music. Now, she's the lead singer of Party for One, an LA-based pop punk outfit. Is she ready to strike out on her own in front of her idol Gwen? Let's find out with "Celebrity Skin" by Hole. She ends up... striking out.

Taylor John Williams (23; Portland, OR) always loved performing. He wanted the attention of the room. Now can he translate that from a job at a hotel for dogs to one at the next level? He better, because he does not have a plan B. He sings Kanye West's "Heartless"... and he will not be coachless, because Adam hits it. So does Gwen. In the end, Taylor goes with Gwen.

Elyjuh Rene (18, Long Beach, CA) loves R&B, soul & pop. He was 3 when he started to sing in church, and from then, his mom was his mom-ager. He is into fashion and matching his mother. His parents split at a young age, and music became his outlet to the world. He's going to sing Beyonce's "XO"... hoping to give the judges one giant "WHAT THE?!" moment. That's Adam... and Pharrell... and it's going to be those two. Pharrell says he feels like he knows his story. Adam says that he is blissful. But Elyjuh is... happy. He picks PHARRELL.

Bianca Espinal (21, NYC) only traveled across the country for her dream. Her father traveled from Dominican Republic. Her father is a janitor, but they play in bands together, mostly busking in New York subways. This could be her MetroCard to the world, "Foolish Games" by Jewel. But her game is over before it even began. No chairs.

Last artist of the night is James David Carter (34; Atlanta), who loved country music, but lived for football... until a career-ending injury took him off the field and onto the stage opening for some of country's greats. He's also a bit into soul. Can he blend the two into a winning performance of Tony Rich's "Nobody Knows". As usual, Adam's the first... but the others follow suit. The power belongs to James now... And it is a free for all. But it's one that ultimately BLAKE wins.

And here is where we stand after night 1.
