The game is always a
surprise, and it turns on a chair that turns. So far,
the newbies are getting a hang of building a team that
is built to last, but who will have the Voice on their
team? Pharrell is the closest to the 12 needed to field
a team this year. The Blinds continue... right now.

First tonight is Katriz
Trinidad (15; San Diego), whose parents came from the
Philippines, as did the rest of their big family. She
competed at the age of 8, winning 14 championships,
including Miss Teen Festival Filipiniana. But can she
win a coach's chair tonight? She opens the show with
Etta James' "At Last". And Adam's the only one who holds
out, because Gwen, Pharrell & Blake turn almost
simultaneously. Adam is the lone holdout, but Pharrell
is the only one who gives a standing O. She reduces
Pharrell to his knees (which behind that podium must be
PAINFUL!). So who will Katriz pick? She goes with...
PHARRELL! Pain is gain, it seems. Three more to go for
Skateboard P.
Ethan Butler (25;
Chicago) only heard gospel music from his father, but
he's spent the last two years discovering music outside
of the church. His mom appreciates that he's not doing
the really nasty stuff. His sister has cerebral palsy,
and his family has used music as a coping mechanism.
Ethan's dedicating his performance of Labrinth &
Emeli Sande's "Beneath Your Beautiful" to her. And the
vets pounce. Adam and Blake have classic Adam-and-Blake
give-and-takes, before Ethan picks... ADAM!
Tanner Linford (17;
Kaysville, UT) is returning from season 6, having
matured both in voice and in persona. He's determined to
turn a chair this time, but will he be second-time
lucky? He chooses "When You Say Nothing At All" by
Allison Krauss. And it looks like he's getting nothing
at all .... until BLAKE HITS IT! He's taking a chance!
Roem Baur (37; San
Francisco) is a stay-at-home dad. His wife's a political
organizer. He was brought up on opera, and he was a
tenor in college. He would earn a lot of awards doing
opera, but you could either be a singer or a teacher. He
didn't see himself doing either. He wants to translate
his voice to rock'n'roll. He played SXSW, but how will
he do on the toughest stage in America? His choice: "Oh,
Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison. But his performance was
anything but pretty. No chair turns.
Jean Kelley (29;
Nashville) has a father who likes bluegrass and a mother
who likes Elvis. Mom perished to congenital heart
disease shortly before Jean started middle school. Her
father wanted the family to be there for each other, so
they made the move to Atlanta shortly afterwards to
pursue music. But will it pay off after she performs
"Already Gone" by Kelly Clarkson? The four coaches are
staring at each other... Gwen and Blake fire! Blake does
casually mention that three people under his watch have
won the show. Gwen laughs it off. Who gets the last
laugh? That would be... GWEN!
As we enter the second
half, Chris Jamison (20; Pittsburgh) delivers the mail
for his Capital University in Columbus. When he's not
delivering letters, he's delivering on stage in a rock
ensemble. He is also a triplet (two sisters), spending
his highschool years as "the pepper shaker" in a stage
production of "Beauty and the Beast". Will he beast it
on stage with Pharrell? Let's see him perform "Gravity"
by John Mayer. Blake's sold. So is Pharrell. Adam wants
in on this. And Gwen makes it a fight. She says she
doesn't have a lot of guys on her team, and she'd really
like a capable one. But it's Chris' choice. Who's going
to get him? It's going to be... ADAM! What a surprise.
Craig Wayne Boyd (35;
Nashville) wanted to do music, so he decided to hone his
skills in rock bands. But deep down inside, he's a
country boy. He was a staff writer for EMI Publishing
while doing showcases around Nashville. He has been so
close, but he's a classic victim of circumstance. Today,
he wants to do this not just for him, but for his son
Jaxon. He's a full time musician and a full time father.
He needs this to happen. He'll try out "The Whiskey
Ain't Workin'" by Travis Tritt & Marty Stuart. And
naturally, Blake hits it. He was sure he had it, but
then Pharrell says "Not so fast, my friend." He DARES to
take on a country king. But he learns if you strike the
king, you better kill him. Welcome to Team BLAKE!
Tini Grey (38; Samoa) has
come a long way to achieve his dream. His father was a
singer to support the family, so he discouraged his son
to stay away from the drudgery of the industry. When
Tini is not an architect in Long Beach, he is a singer
and a family man (three boys, one girl). His father had
a stroke on stage, prompting Tini's journey to the
industry, if only to keep his legacy alive. He plays
"Sara Smile" by Hall & Oates. But no one is smiling
after his 90 seconds. He doesn't get a chair. But he
does get respect.
It's getting to be that
time when the coaches are starting to get very selective
about who gets a space on a team. Is there a spot for
Toia Jones (29; Montgomery, AL)? She sang in the church,
but her heart is in old-school blues. Her father was a
great influence, so she took it hard when he died of
diabetes. But his personality shines in her. Will his
voice? Let's hear her on "One and Only". And here's
Skateboard P! She's in! And Adam's like "What the hell,
let's do it." So Toia has a guaranteed spot on a team.
But whose team? After Pharrell tried to cut Adam off,
Toia chooses.... PHARRELL! Two more to go.
Amanda Lee Peers (29;
Rochester, NY) grew up in the church, where she started
playing music. Her family is born-again, and because her
family's born-again, it was hard for Amanda to come out
as gay. She used music to let that all go. Her family
went through it and loved her for who she is. Her church
- and her music - not so much. But she came back to
music and channeled her being into it (thanks to her
girlfriend). Let's see if it pays off in a chair-turn
with "Put the Gun Down". Gwen fires. And ... she's the
only one. That was easy.
Meanwhile, Gianna Salvato
joins her. BUT Rebekah Samarin would end up passing Gwen
over for Adam. Grant Ganzer joins Team Blake.
And that leads us to the
final singer of the night, Jonathan Wyndham (22;
Lexington, SC), a goofy kid who liked Lord of the Rings,
suitcases, and Star Wars. Until 5th grade, he had a
speech impediment, but music helped him pass that. He
had an opportunity to do session work and write a few
songs. Funny thing is, his life's mission is to sing at
every Cracker Barrel in the US. He's hoping to leave
that behind for something a little more official with
"Say Something" by Great Big World. He doesn't know
which of the coaches he wants to pick before he sings.
So he'll have to wait for the chairs. Blake pops it. And
that leads Adam and Gwen to do likewise. Pharrell makes
it four, and makes Jonathan's decision that much more
difficult. He does arrive at a decision... and he
goes... to Team ADAM.
