Semifinals: O'Grady/Bayer/Farrell
February 11
Last week, 15 of America's best and brightest teachers came to Culver City to compete for $100,000 and a guaranteed slot in the next Tournament of Champions. Now, only nine remain - the five winners of last week's games and the four highest-scorers among non-winners.

This week is a win-or-go-home affair with the three semifinal winners getting a spot in the two-day finals with $100,000 at stake for the winner, $50,000 for the first runner-up, and $25,000 for the second runner-up. Everyone playing this week is guaranteed $10,000. As always, any and all prizes depend on how far up a player moved in the standings.

The losers of this match get $10,000. The winner of this match gets Jennifer Giles and Adam Elkana-Hale.

- Colin wins if... Both Mary and Cathy do something stupid and lose because of it.
- Mary wins if... she bets at least $8201 and is right while Cathy is wrong.
- Cathy wins if ... she bets $401 and is correct.

Final Jeopardy! category: REFERENCE BOOK MAKERS

IN 1863 HE USED THE EPIGRAPH "I HAVE GATHERED...OTHER MEN'S FLOWERS, & NOTHING BUT THE THREAD THAT BINDS THEM IS MINE OWN"

Correct response: who was John Bartlett (of the famous book of quotations)?

Colin's response: who is Thoreau? WRONG. Wager: $2300. Total: $4100.
Mary's response: who is Audubon? WRONG. Wager: $8600. Total: $0.
Cathy's response: who was Webster? WRONG. Wager: $1000. Total: $15,800

Finalist: Cathy Farrell

She was incredibly lucky that Mary bet everything. Of course given that this is tournament play, you kind of have to bet everything you have, category be damned, to stand a chance. but this could've gone to Mary. Cathy has to avoid such errors in mathematics in order to have a shot at $100,000.

And speaking of, here's who she's up against...
