Quarterfinals: Forrest/Dawson/Burnett
May 9
In 1984, "Jeopardy!", the Merv Griffin creation that provided the answers and asked for the questions, returned to the airwaves in first-run syndication. Thirty years and more than 6000 episodes later, it stands as the gold standard for quiz shows today, and this year, we celebrate with a year-long tournament featuring some of the greatest champions to ever play the game: The Battle of the Decades.

Over the past season, we've seen 45 of the game's greatest go head-to-head-to-head in preliminary win-or-go-home matchups. Now the winners of those games return for a two-week tournament. The winner takes home $1,000,000. First runner-up gets $100,000. Second-runner up gets $50,000. Semifinalists will be guaranteed $25,000. All of this week's participants will go home with $10,000. As always, all prize money is dependent upon how far a player proceeds.

All this week, we will have one player from the first decade, one from the second, and one from the third.

We have six players in the semis. In total, they've won over $7 million on the show previously. One, two, or maybe all three of these players may join them.

Daily Double: $800 South American Wildlife. Mark has $600 to Chuck's $2000. He fronts the max of $1000 on this: this feline with a fancy coat is the only New World resident traditionally classified as a big cat. "What is a jaguar?" RIGHT for $1600!

Daily Double #1: $1600 Female World Leaders. Colby, who got the only clue revealed so far right, bets all of his $2200 on this: her husband's assassination & a people power revolution made her president in 1986. "Who is Aquino?" FOR THE DOUBLER: $4400!

Daily Double #2: $800 The Stars Write. Colby's back in it with $7200, beating Chuck at his own game, though he has the lead on $10,800. Colby wagers $1000 on this: born in 1928, in 2009 Dick Van Patten published a book titled this "Is Not Enough". "What is 80?" That... would've been right, but "The World" costs him, as he goes back to $6200.

At the end of Double Jeopardy!...

Chuck Mark Colby

If all three end with more than $15,000, that will bump Rachael Schwartz and Pam Mueller off the bubble.

Final Jeopardy! category: FAMOUS BOOKS

IT WAS PUBLISHED MARCH 26, 1830; A VERY POPULAR WORK WITH THE SAME NAME PREMIERED MARCH 24, 2011

Correct response: what is "The Book of Mormon"?

Mark's response: what is .. ? WRONG. Wager: $2000. Total: $8600
Colby's response: what is The Time Machine? WRONG. Wager: $800. Total: $11,000
Chuck's response: what? WRONG. Wager: $2500. Total: $11,900.

SEMIFINALIST: Chuck Forrest

Not much room to do anything, but Chuck Forrest played it safe and relied heavily on a broad knowledge base to help him through the Double Jeopardy! round.

That means that he will meet THESE players for a shot at a million.

Next week, it's win-or-go-home as the semifinalists move one step closer to a million-dollar payoff.

Also judging from today, we can say that Leszek Pawlowicz and Pam Mueller will be back next week, with Rachael and Tom on the bubble.

Next time, we finish up the semis with Mark Dawson, Chuck Forrest, and Colby Burnett.
